Was he Buster Crabbe? That name just came into my head.

I hate when a pop-up appears and asks me if i want to upgrade or install this or that . I usually just close the box and forget about it.

That is just what I do .....the computer has a language of its own. Does anyone know what Jill Paice's singing voice is......soprano? contralto?

I hope they have the scene by the piano. It sounds like the kind of music they have in it.

I only vaguely remember it maybe because ti seemed like such an unlikely scenario for two rebels. Where does it come ion the book?
In Atlanta. Rhett is at a gathering at Aunt Pittypatt's and Scarlett says the wrong thing and gets asked to play pianio. She starts singing a depressing song as some of those gathered had just lost menfolk. Rhett rescues her by singing in his pleasant bass and she joins in.

Well that would open the door for a natural duet without having to shoehorn it into the action, but is the surrounding scene of any value? It isn't the scene where Rhett scandalises everybody with his 'All wars are sacred........' speech, is it?
I'm getting bad at remembering. I'll have to read the whole book again. It was after Rhett was refused admittance to all but Annty Pittypatt's house. Melanie still supports him. The injury lists are out and they've killed the cockerell as all the hens have already been eatenand invited all their friends overas it seemed wrong not to when food is scarse. Aunt Pittypatt wanted a party and she wouldn't accept no as an answer.. Rhett turns up with some bon bons. Scarlett makes some remark , forgetting that two of the girls fiance/husbands have been named as killed. She goes over to the piano and starts playing something - I think 'When this cruel war is over', it results in the girls being really distressed. She starts another song which is equally bad and then Rhett comes over and suggests she plays another. They then sing 'Dixie'. I could have that all wrong but, I'd have to reread it to remember it better.

It was Rhett and Dr Meade talking and the Dr thought Rhett had insulted him, that was when Aunt Pittypat asked Scarlett to play.

.....but if there isn't a Dr Meade how can they have it?

Dr Meade is one of the key characters in the film and in the book he's described as Atlanta's foremost citizen or some such.

I can't see any name on the cast list who could replace him.

I know I posted a reply on this - yet again, it's disappeared. I think they'll keep most of it, just swop the cgharacters. They may even have Mrs Meade doing it.

Or Mrs Merryweather, if she's in that scene. She seems a right nippie old person to me..

Yes, the men strut and think they're the top dogs but it's actually a matriarchal society with the grand dames getting most respect.

They keep other ladies (except Scarlett, abetted by Rhett) down, by insisting everything is done the way they have always done it, although circumstances are different from any they've faced.

It is even harder to accept change when you're older. They have had a life time of older women telling them what they should do. Now they're passing it on.
