April 1, 200817 yr Quote meg. I didn't bother as it's just the usual thing. Just Trevor and Margaret and starts 4th April Being sarcastic Im sure those two names will sell it to the general public - NOT. They may be known to us and to some in london but outside areas - No. I am beginning to despair of their PR or if it exists. If you look at the threads else it is virtually the same.I just dont understand their logic.
April 1, 200817 yr Please don't scream at me, but I would hazard a guess that the names of Jill Paice and Darius Danesh would be known to only a small section of the general public. Neither of them is a megastar ( as yet ) to the GP. Neither is an established A-list celebrity or a famous filmstar to put bums on seats. D was well known seven years ago, but the GP are quick to forget unless they have a specific interest ( as we do), and the worlds of rock music and theatre musicals attract very different audiences. His stint in Chicago and in G and D received minor publicity because he was joining up and running shows. So I think that, until Jill and D are established and acclaimed, the name of Trevor Nunn in particular will carry more weight on the posters. Also, is it possible that they are trying to avert the backwash from some of the tabloid press?
April 1, 200817 yr I really think Trevor took Darius on on ability alone. I think that if they wanted a big name to head the show rather than a big talent, they'd have gone with someone else and the promo would have been based around him/her. As sson as we are in the previews, we should see an increase in promotion. I think the standard of the Musical will be what sells it. I haven't really expected anything different. Can I scream at you now? Please? Sounds good and I'm sure you wouldn't REALLY mind. Fancy having an opinion - don't let it happen again.
April 1, 200817 yr Author Rowing against the current - isnt that the Darius fan to a tee, I like to think we are the ones not heading for the waterfall.. I tend to agree with Bramley, I hadnt even heard of Jill until reading about GWTW, perhaps Trevor wants the musical to stand on its own merit, it would imo not be right to open such a landmark musical and base its PR on a name, Was Lord of the Rings advertised on names, not sure - it seemed to rely on the effects and the iconic nature of Lord of the Rings itself. People with an interest in theatre would be familiar with Trevors name, although my other half hadnt heard of him... and no one would have heard of margaret Martin over here, if at all - Darius always seems to speak with great insight and depth when he's been interviewed about his previous theatre roles I hope he gets the chance with GWTW
April 1, 200817 yr Darius can always speak well about his roles because he is well informed. He doesn't just learn his script and turn up to rehearsals. He does some research into the character and origin of the piece and he looks at how others have tackled the part, but doesn't copy anyone.
April 1, 200817 yr His presentation skills, founded in public school, have been well developed over the last few years.
April 2, 200817 yr I was trying to think what shows there are with guests and there really aren't that many are there? The only big one left is Johnathon Ross. Is the Alan Titchmarsh show still on?
April 2, 200817 yr It does. It all seems to have changed though. We can hope for GMTV and this Morning. I'll have to start watching more TV.
April 2, 200817 yr I don't know. Paul seems less happy and that makes the programme awkward and I just don'y like Richard and Judy, so, unless there's definately something I want to see, I don't automatically turn on any more.
April 2, 200817 yr Less happy with what, do you think? When I caught the end of the show today, it said OLGA productions. Olga is/was Paul's dog, so it looks to me that the show is produced by his own or jointly owned company.
April 2, 200817 yr He didn't look well. He seemed to be counting the days until he was off. To me, watching the show in the last week, his throw away lines seemed to have a sting and the pure fun, spontaneous and shared, seemed to have gone. That seemed more apparent watching it recorded. He could not have been feeling well. The warm up man warned everyone Paul was in a bad temper and it took him a while to interact with the audience - which didn't happen in previous recordings I've seen. I really hope he is OK. Looking at the screens he looked fine but not well in life.
April 2, 200817 yr That's a bit worrying considering Paul's had more than one heart attack in the past.
April 3, 200817 yr I can just imagine how stressful it'll be for him this week - Hyper John Barrowman on the same show as Mariah Carey with her entourage.
April 3, 200817 yr Author to be honest I dont know why Paul went back, he has had the warning...the least time I caught it he seemed very off
