I couldn't get over how bad he was at singing. I just couldn't see how they'd even consider him for that role.

Poor Darius........................ he said he listened to some of the original tapes. If what was on the film was the best segments spliced together, I'd hate to think what the unedited tape would sound like. Thank goodness it was only Brando's acting which Darius emulated.

Apparently Marlon Brando was the hottest in terms of box office actor and "Brando Sings" was a key soundbite for the promotion of the film. I don't think even his staunchest fans would have thought that statement was wholly accurate after they'd heard him.

We're way OT here.

I think I saw enough of the Chicago movie on telly the other night but I might dig out my Guys and Dolls for old times sake. Darius is still pretty clear but parts of it have faded in my memory.

I'll have to fast forward through all Marlon's songs except Woman In Love - how I'd have loved to have heard Darius sing that one live - but the two he did, My Time Of Day and I've Never Been In Love Before, were awesome, although he'd been asked to hold back.

Luck Be A Lady wasn't bad either BT ;)

I can't remember if it was Darius or not who said he thought Brando should have played Nathan Detroit and Sanatra should have played Sky Masterson. Brando was obviously the bigger star at the time(and probably contiued to be) but surely Mr Sanatra's voice would have suited the part better? Not having seen the original film, I can only assume that everyone who has and says Brando's singing is terrible, is correct. I will check it out one day though.

B.P. Richard Gere is positively melodic compared with Brando

I loved I'll Know and Luck Be A Lady too. Darius's voice sounded wonderful. I only referred to those two particular songs because they were the ones replaced in the film by Woman In Love.

I shudder when I imagine what Brando would have done with My Time Of Day, which was said to be Frank Loesser's favourite. The latter was also supposed to have been on set a lot. Maybe he couldn't take Brando killing it and that's why he wrote a new song.

I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall while they were trying to get enough peices to put together to make the song.

It was Fern Britton who thought the roles should have been reversed and Darius diplomatically said they could have worked either way. I don't think so............. I can't see Marlon Brando as a cheap bum.

It's said that Sinatra really wanted to be Sky. I don't blame him. Sky is very much the romantic hero. I think Brando was perfect for the acting role.

I actually preferred Shaun's Williamson's Nathan to Sinatra's, if that's not blasphemous.

So did I. Lots of people said that you could get away with Nathan not being a good singer - it fitted with the character but, Sky had to be good.
Shaun Williamson is a really good singer. He didn't have the chance to show it because he did Nathan's songs in character, as did Darius Sky's.
Shaun was a lot of fun on stage and seemed a nice guy at the stage door too :) He has quite a chubby face but I was shocked how lean he was in the body :o Must have been all the dancing, though he wasn't too graceful if I remember correctly. Overall I thought he was excellent :)
We were very lucky to see such a good compatible cast. I'd like to see the same one again.

I sooooo wish I could have gone to Edinburgh to see it :( I feel I have missed out on so many D events/shows in the past and each opportunity I miss now leaves my with extra regrets :( OH well....

Hey sorry BT, I misinterpreted your post ref the songs  Partly because I haven't seen the movie and mostly because I'm a dumbo :D

Have your ears grown? They were quite normal last time I saw you. Not at all normal for an elephant though. It that's the wau yolur going, did you have surgery?

I loved both those songs - I'd have liked a bit more of 'My Time of Night' though.

It's a beautiful song. I definitely got goosebumps every time I heard Darius sing it. ................Obadiah!

I think one of the funniest lines from the stage show is "You've got a boyfriend called Isaiah?" That is such a great scene with just the two girls. I'm almost sure it was missed out completely in the film.

Louise, Stephen Webb and I'm pretty sure Sean are all doing stuff just now. I'll try to remenber exactly what.
