March 5, 200817 yr quote baytree - genuine West End star - John Barrowman. I would dispute the genuine im afraid, completely over exposed and full of himself. sorry.Regarding D being around in five year time, theres lot of people I know that think hes not around now due to virtually non PR. John Barrowman was a top West End performer and he had done some TV. He became more recognised as Captein Jack but IMHO the 'me,me,me' antics only started when he became a judge on Maria and he got blanket media coverage, especially in all the celeb mags. Completely overexposed? There's a thread on DS which particularly disgusts me and I don't understand how, if it's true, female cast members can just shrug off such blatant behaviour. I don't care what the perception re Darius is. The charts are full of absolute rubbish so being in the charts proves nothing about anyone's talent, more about how good their 'people' are at working the system. The same goes for the media in this country. I'm not worried about the perception, Preston. Some people think Darius sang Britney on Pop Idol, released Colourblind and then disappeared. The facts are that Darius is the lead male, originating the part of a truly iconic character in the biggest brand new musical to hit London for years. That's about the biggest challenge you can face as a musical theatre performer. No-one can deny his talents any more - Darius can sing, act and dance extremely well and he can do it live on stage every night. If the media don't give him some coverage this time, then we'll know he's being deliberately blocked. It's not long until the show is unveiled at the first preview, I think the emphasis will be on rehearsals not the PR. The documentary is being filmed while they rehearse.
March 5, 200817 yr too true, BT - it will be glaringly obvious if they try to sweep Darius under the carpet - Rhett IS Gone with the Winds as much as Scarlett Ohara. as for JB - I remember him as a presenter on a kids saturday show, before he went into Miss siagon...I just wish people could get it through their heads that EVERYONE has to start somewhere and "its not where you start its where you finish"..LOL Edited March 6, 200817 yr by prettyinpink
March 5, 200817 yr I really don't like that kind of thing. It just seems like tribute acts with a bad story line. They never feel like musicals. People love them though, so that's fine.
March 5, 200817 yr They're not my cup of tea. I liked ABBA's music. I sometimes find myself singing some of it and I am the proud owner of a couple of LPs. Strangely enough I can't play them because I don't have a turntable any more but I've never tried to buy them on CD. Mamma Mia is in town in April or May, I don't remember which. The Tenants and Residents Association were looking at all the programmes to organise an outing but only a handful of people were interested in Mamma Mia.
March 5, 200817 yr I've never been overkeen on Abba but, I'd rather hear them sing than someone try and sound like them.
March 6, 200817 yr me too, I liked Abba songs, and Boy George songs and I loved Queen songs..but if I want to listen , which oddly I never do, I would put on a CD - just cannot see the appeal of someone else singing their songs set to a plot on stage. They just dont seem like real musicals to me, and there are so many of them these days. I feel soneone is just going through back catalogues working out if there is some kind of plot they can put on stage using old songs.
March 6, 200817 yr The music in 'We Will rock You' was fantastic - the plot wasn't. We have all the Queen albums here.
March 6, 200817 yr Never mind, a musical with brand new rock music is set to take to the stage next year. Pete Doherty and Carl Barat are said to be reuniting to write the musical. I wonder if Pete will play the lead too and a part for Kate Moss ?-that should woo her back.
March 6, 200817 yr dear lord...trouble is I reckon pete is fawned over so much as a great singer/songwriter he believes it - perhaps I will be suprised, but who knows, the beatles wrote a lot while addled on drugs....
March 6, 200817 yr well it doesnt seem to have worked for Pete up till now, if what I have heard is anything to judge..
March 6, 200817 yr I can't really comment. I don't know anything much about Pete Doherty, the Libertines or Babyshambles but he didn't get his reputation from nowhere, so he/they must've been pretty good at one time.
March 6, 200817 yr I never likes Libertines or Babyshambles - its just sort of indie boy rock stuff - I ws always suprised he was raved about, but then same as White Stripes..there are far better bands out there, yet somehow their reputation exceeds them! Edited March 6, 200817 yr by prettyinpink
March 6, 200817 yr It's often just a case of what grabs the media's attention. These just dudbn't grab mine whatever the media said.
March 6, 200817 yr We're way OT here. I think I saw enough of the Chicago movie on telly the other night but I might dig out my Guys and Dolls for old times sake. Darius is still pretty clear but parts of it have faded in my memory. I'll have to fast forward through all Marlon's songs except Woman In Love - how I'd have loved to have heard Darius sing that one live - but the two he did, My Time Of Day and I've Never Been In Love Before, were awesome, although he'd been asked to hold back.
