Posted March 2, 200817 yr OK, here's my idea to stop the tactical voting... They need to divide the nations into blocks, Balkans in one block, Greece and Cyprus and surrounding countries in another and the Scandinavians in another. The rule could then be that you can't give more than 8 pts to someone in the same block as you. That would even things up a bit and give more deserved winners a chance. Ideally... Thoughts?
March 2, 200817 yr Nahh. It'd certainly spread the results out, but would be totally unfair! The best way to control the voting would be to stop immigrants being able to vote. Or making you have a British passport to vote in the UK, Croatian passport to vote in Croatia, Turkish passport to vote in Turkey etc. Obviously that will never happen as it couldn't be policed, but it would control the disaporic voting!

I don't know how much you've been following the Contest this year, but that's sort of the idea of the new semi-final system. The countries that normally vote for each other (Greece / Cyprus, Scandinavian countries, former Yugoslav countries etc) have been split between the two semi finals, and can only vote in their own semi-final. Also the juries get to decide two of the qualifiers. At least that should sort out the problem of "tactical" voting as you put it, to get qualifiers in the final. As for the final, we still have all 43 countries voting, but it's a step in the right direction.
March 3, 200817 yr I think the voting should be left to all non-participating countries and regions. I think we'd get a few points from Patagonia, Antarctica and Madagascar but I'm not sure we'd do too well with votes from Helmand Province. Edited March 3, 200817 yr by nitramnella
