March 6, 200817 yr 'For What You Dream Of' is euphoric bliss! I avoid overplaying it though, every now and then I dig it out and play the full length 12" (the radio edit just doesn't cut it). Those of you who are unaware of this track, it's featured on the Trainspotting soundtrack - at the part where Ewan McGregor (can't remember the characters name) is in a club and off his head on drugs. Needless to say, you don't need any sort of stimulant to get off your t*ts to this track! Nail on the head, ScottyEm... for those unfamiliar with this awesome tune - here it is, in its full almost-10-minute glory... BLISS... In fact, nobodys' 'Best of 96' lists can omit this tune and be taken seriously ;) .... Edited March 6, 200817 yr by russt68
March 6, 200817 yr Well here's mine, not much dance because 96 was Britpop for me, when indie took over the charts completely: Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 So in the year of Britpop I choose an grunge band. Oh well who cares. This is such a groove of a record and I still adore it. The Bluetones - Slight Return When I oh so badly wanted another Stone Roses record here came this bright and breezy perfection of a tune. Manic Street Preachers - Kevin Carter All the sweeter for being Richie's last lyric for a single. Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger THE ANTHEM of 96. The Prodigy - Firestarter I was astonished when this got to #1. It was like having Ministry get there. Still one of the best records to hit the top. Babylon Zoo - Spaceman I don't care - I loved this! Baddiel and Skinner and the Lightning Seeds - Three Lions I will never forget the semi-final against Germany and 100,000 people singing this at Wembley. Still brings a tear to my eye. Ash - Oh Yeah A fabulous pop song Lush and Jarvis Cocker - Ciao! Should have been a single - from the Lovelife album. Super Furry Animals - Hometown Unicorn Welsh wizardry. Mansun - Wide Open Space Mansun hitting their stride with this gem. The Folk Implosion - Natural One Cool Tune from Lou Barlow's other band. Geneva - No One Speaks Lovely song from a completely forgotten band. Butthole Surfers - Pepper The Surfers go pop but in their own warped way. Screaming Trees - All I Know Epic track from epic last album "Dirt" Mazzy Star - Rhymes of an Hour Beautiful Sorry for edging into double album length but I just kept thinking of tracks! March 7, 200817 yr some good tracks there...except the fugees...lol.i hate them! especially that thrack, destroyed the original sample. What's wrong with Fugees? Their album The Score is one of the best hip hop albums ever made :) What about "Fu-gee-la", another single from the same album The Score?

March 7, 200817 yr was Dubstar's 'Stars' from 1996, too? If so - it's my favourite single of that year - I adore that song. Also - was Leftfield really 1996? :o Yikes.... 'Open Up' for me, too, then, if that's 1996.

'Open Up' for me, too, then, if that's 1996. Dubstar's Stars was 1995. But it was re-released in 1996 after the relative chart success of Not So Manic Now in promotion of one of the greatest (& most underrated) albums of the decade Disgraceful. Leftfield - Open Up was released in 1993.
March 8, 200817 yr I think I will add "St. Etienne - He's on the Phone" as a bonus track :D (thanks to thisispop)
March 8, 200817 yr must tell you off m8... its HAS to have a limit on it otherwise itll just be a boreing list.. i dont want these threads to be lists.. so like an album you HAVE to chose the best tracks to put on it :) What's the limit and I will amend the album!
March 8, 200817 yr What's the limit and I will amend the album! It has been set at 12 tracks (+ a bonus track :P) Although seeing as 1996 was well into the CD age, you could have bluffed that you were compiling a CD (70+ mins) not a vinyl album / single side of a 45 minute cassette.
