Posted March 4, 200817 yr Power couple draws A-list celebs on both sides of border SIRI AGRELL From Monday's Globe and Mail March 3, 2008 at 3:52 AM EST Live from New York and Toronto, it's the Clintons' Saturday Night! Bill and Hillary Clinton had a busy weekend of carousing and campaigning, as the former U.S. president hosted an exclusive fundraising gala on the Toronto waterfront and his wife appeared in a skit on Saturday Night Live. Hillary opened the comedy show, hosted by Canadian actress Ellen Page, in a sketch with Amy Poehler, the actress who regularly portrays the politician in parodies. The two women wore matching brown blazers and Poehler mocked her laughter, prompting the Democratic candidate to ask: "I don't really laugh like that, do I?" While his wife was drawing laughs, Bill Clinton was in Toronto raising money for the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative, a star-studded event that raised more than $16-million for Latin American development work. Although he has recently been keeping a low profile in his wife's political campaign, Bill Clinton demonstrated his continued ability to draw A-list celebrities to his service. The event was hosted by Canadian comedian Eugene Levy, included a performance by Elton John and some ad-libbed standup by Robin Williams. John Travolta made an appearance, Morgan Freeman narrated a video, and actor Tom Cruise introduced pop singer Shakira as "Colombia's greatest natural resource." B) Another big name, Hollywood legend and legendary womanizer Jack Nicholson, released a video this weekend endorsing Hillary for president. The video is a montage of clips from Nicholson's most famous roles, including Batman, The Shining, and A Few Good Men, with quotes intended to promote Clinton's candidacy. "There's nothing on this earth sexier, believe me gentlemen, than a woman that you have to salute in the morning," Nicholson says in the video's last clip from A Few Good Men. The project, part of the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative, will assist local leaders in addressing issues of social, economic and environmental impact through employment and economy. Clinton started the initiative last June to create sustainable development in Latin American countries where natural resources dominate the economy. "The world is bedevilled by three great crises: the persistent and growing inequality in economic opportunity, education and health care; the insecurity caused by our interdependence making us vulnerable to terror, to weapons of mass destruction, to the spread of dangerous materials, to global epidemics; and the unsustainability of our current developmental course because of the threats of global warming," Clinton told more than 1,000 people at the Westin Harbour Castle Convention Centre. Tables at the event cost between $25,000 and $300,000. Vancouver mining financier Frank Giustra has pledged $100 million to the project, plus half of his future earnings from the natural resources sector. The initiative has raised more than $300 million so far. The lucky fan that won the bidding of this Gala said this: Translating: "At our table: Antonio (yes ladies, he's VERY beautifull), her brother, the president of PD, the international vice president of Sony, as well as other important people. At the tables next to us: Elton John, Tom Cruise, John Travolta and his wife. Other people present: Bill Clinton, Robin Williams Eugene Levy and others Shakira was sitting on my right side for a good amount of time. She is very nice and accesible. We talked about everything and nothing. Lots of people came to see her and talk to her, congratulate her and take photos. Then she went to do her performance. Genial. After that I thanked and said goodbye to her backstage. It was a night I will never forget. I can honestly say that I would wish for all of you to have a similar experience at least ones in your life." He has uploaded the photo but then took it of again. He says it was a very private event and therefore he doesn't know if he can put that photo on the internet. He also said: "She weares practically no make up at all, a little lippgloss and very very little blush. She's a natural beauty" (Translated by Intam from the Shakirarules forum) I hate him!!! lol :P Te setlist was: HDL Underneath Your Clothes Whenever Wherever Edited March 4, 200817 yr by DaVeLoVeShAkI
