Jeff Buckley died in 1997.

And the highest iTunes entry for 'Hallelujah' is #66 on the Alternative chart. Only about the top 12-15 make the overall top 100... :|

It is up to No.2 on US iTunes...perhaps it was sung by someone on American Idol?

edit: just checked, it was sung by Jason Castro on American Idol...hugely influential programme eh!

Oh LOL, my mistake  Must be another Jeff.

Blind guitarist Jeff Healey died earlier in the week

That's it :cheer: Though I know I shouldn't be cheering that. Thanks :D

I saw it was #2 on the US Store earlier and I assumed that he just died today or something... I didn't know that he was already dead. :(

Wow, the power of AI.... I'm looking forward to seeing Jason perform that song. B)

the original Leonard Cohen version can be found on this album:

Now #1 on iTunes. It's strange, since many of us have worshipped this song for 10+ years. But I suppose there is nothing wrong with the T-Pain generation discovering a classic like this...

Yeah.

But still, Jeff Buckley so deserves it.

Maybe the sucess of Hallelujah will lead to a re-release of his work?

Love the song, but Leonard Cohen makes me want to slit a vein in a warm bath....

a bit like the X Factor then?

Hellelujah must be one of the most covered song of all the time. From Bon Jovi to Sheryl Crow, everybody has a version :naughty: . Some of the artists were also very good!

My fav cover is from Rufus

It's so depressing this song!

I really, really hope the tossers left in the X-Factor do not make Christmas #1 slot! We'd have a really high suicide rate due to this song!

It's a beautiful song, but I have no idea what the hell ANY of the X Factor finalists will make of it now Diana's out (though she wasn't my favourite).
By the way, if you want to know how this might sound in the hands of an X Factor winner, have a listen to Kate Voegele's version. Personally I'm holiday out for the Almighty Records dance cover ;)
I like Kate Voegele's version, but I really don't think any of the X Factor winners songs will sound ANYTHING like it. JLS will have harmonising, Alexandra will go OTT, and Eoghan will actually make us all top ourselves.
