02.14.2008 Five-Time GRAMMY-Winner Michael McDonald; Top-Selling Australian Female Vocalist Delta Goodrem To Perform At NARM 50th Gala

 

Universal Motown's Michael McDonald and Decca Records' Delta Goodrem will entertain attendees of the National Association Of Recording Merchandisers' 50th Anniversary Convention during the Association's Gala Dinner to be held on Wednesday, May 7 at the San Francisco Marriott.

 

"NARM is elated to have such impressive talent join us for an evening celebrating the Association's, as well as the industry's, past, present and future," said NARM President Jim Donio. "Both Universal Motown and Decca Records have been large supporters of past NARM Conventions, and we look forward to continuing that relationship again this year."

A fixture in American Pop music for the past three decades, Michael McDonald was part of music history in the 1970s with both Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers and in 1982 began using his signature baritone vocals to carve a legendary solo career that earned him five GRAMMY Awards. McDonald will showcase his latest endeavor, "Soul Speak," which is being released March 11. This collection of interpretations is the story of McDonald's musical life, of the thoughts and sounds and influences that helped shape his renowned career. "Soul Speak," which also includes three original songs by McDonald, is the natural follow-up to McDonald's two smash explorations of the Motown Records songbook — the platinum-selling "Motown" from 2003, which was nominated for two Grammy awards, and the next year's gold-selling "Motown Two."

 

At 23, Delta Goodrem has already achieved success well beyond her years. As Australia's highest-selling female vocalist ever, Goodrem has amassed eight number one singles in her native country. She has also garnered top positions on the charts in both the United Kingdom and Japan, making her a multi-million selling artist worldwide. She is now poised to match her international success in the United States with the release of her Decca debut, "Delta." The new album, which is scheduled for release in June, is a collection of 12 songs dealing with life, love, and relationships.

i cant wait to see the new clip of In this life! they are promoting delta as a true live singer and she is doing showcases all over america. Brad from the official forum found that out (not official). i found the official press release (which is dated before Delta and sony BMG US split, suggesting delta signed with the new label and then gave sony the flick..) :w00t:

I wish they would include all of her 8 number ones on the album plus the best of the new album as the USA will miss out on delta's greatest songs -_- I don't think she will be successful there, ITL isn't strong enough to be the first single... the new vid will prob mean it'll be out here as the first single... well if it gets released here (which i'm doubting)

i think In This Life is a great first single. first singles are generally to get your name out there, she will follow up with Believe Again or YWOBMH which will do better as she is kind of known. i agree, i think that most of her number ones should be included on this album. but i dont see it happening. even if she put one or two on each of the next 3 albums. even if they are not released as singles, they are still amazing live!

 

Delta is being released in the UK and europe because i read an article where that Dennis from Sony said that people from US, Japan and UK/Europe came to sydney for a showcase and all signed deals for its release (article was recent but this occured one or two months ago)

im no good with the order but i like those songs!

I rweally don't think the 'Delta' album as it is right now (Oz release) will go down well in US. She should add a few new songs (killer ballads maybe) and take out some of the weaker tracks (*cough* Woman *cough* One Day)...also she should include at the very leats 'Lost without you' since it did get airplay in the US before.

She'll do a Natasha Bedingfield. Record new tracks.

She needs new tracks, this album is her weakest to date and it's going to be her first in the US... it's going to flop hard if classic songs and some new good ones aren't added.... in my opinion from this era take me home is by far her best... why not include it? Insane!
