Posted March 9, 200817 yr whats with the latest fad of calling Sweet, The Sweet?... they had their first hit when i was 14, their last when i was 21... they were for my generation and were NEVER refered to as THE sweet... now according to the guiness book they support what my memory tells me...lol new groups in the early 70's did NOT have the prefix 'the'.... not until punk did 'the' become fashionable again. slade, trex, mud, jigsaw, paper lace etc etc etc... only the rubettes, carpenters and electric light orchestra that i can recall used 'the' (excepting still going 60's groups...hollies, stones etc). so i dont know where or why the prefix'the' has crept in... its SWEET, full stop!
March 9, 200817 yr Yep, they're Sweet, not The Sweet and as far as I know, they've never called themselves The Sweet. Two years ago I went to the Robin2 in Bilston to see Andy Scott's Sweet. Andy is of course, the guitarist from the original group. I wasn't sure quite what to expect, but he puts on a fantastic show, playing all the old songs. I'm going to see him and his band there again in August.
March 10, 200817 yr Hmm...well I've got an old "arcade" compilation from 1972 on vinyl and they're credited as The Sweet on there doing Little Willy.
March 11, 200817 yr Author they are just 'sweet' on their singles and albums... check the guiness book... arcade were not the authoritive power...lol..
March 11, 200817 yr Heh heh, yep, but they influenced me to call them The Sweet for years...which I guess proves your point! But yeah, what I meant was they were wrong in 1972 too not just recently. Edited March 11, 200817 yr by richie
