Posted March 10, 200817 yr Elvis and the Commercial that appears to have been dropped I came across this on another messageboard and it was new to me so I thought I’d post it and see if anyone has any further information. I’ve had a quick skim of my books and can’t find any more information, although, on googling it, I came up with this book that makes mention of the Memphis-based Hungerford Furniture Company and Elvis B) http://www.elvisinfonet.com/bookreview_candle.html Does anyone know any more about this? Hungerford Commercial 1956 From: "Rich Hungerford" Subject: Elvis and Hungerford Found on pages 217 and 225 of "Elvis, The Early Years, A 2001 Fact Odyssey," by Jim Curtin, with Renata Ginter, published by Celebrity Books, Nashville, TN, 1999. Page 217 has a picture with the following caption: "Elvis and Hungerford Furniture Company representative Bill Carrier, Jr., holding a drawer from a mahogany bureau, December 1956. This was Elvis's second commercial. The ad was never used." Page 255 includes the following passage: "The Hungerford Furniture Company had plans to release a line of Elvis Presley furniture in the spring of 1957 that never materialized. The set would have included 40 pieces, from record cabinets to dining room tables, with prices ranging from $39 to $340." The Hungerford family that owned the furniture company was the Simeon Rice Hungerford family. Regards, Richard W. Hungerford, Jr. source: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/HU ... 0991091830 Here are some photos of Elvis promoting Hungerford  http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/HungerfordCommercial.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/HungerfordCommercial2.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/HungerfordCommercial3.jpg I shall be following the thread on the other site and if I find out any more info, I'll let you know B)
March 10, 200817 yr I don't know anything about this but it looks a s though Elvi as been put in those pictures after they were taken
March 10, 200817 yr Author I think it is just the way they have come out, and from what I've read on the other site, the second pic was for a poster. Another member on the other site had some more information about the aborted Hungerford Furniture ad campaign B) He said that he had an interesting artifact from this little venture: An original 1956 poster Hungerford had printed up for in store promotion. The picture on it is similar to the second photo posted of Elvis sitting in front of the dresser with his 45 singles laid out, but in the photo on the poster Elvis is smiling. He said that he believed it was scrapped because Colonel Parker had a problem with endorsement deals in general. He thought that Scotty, Bill, and D.J. were offered free Lincoln continentals in '57 if they would pose for an ad that said "Elvis's guys drive Lincolns", and Colonel made them turn it down.
March 11, 200817 yr Author Someone on FECC site has scanned a page from a book that tells us a little more about the Hungerford connection and have added another photo  http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/scan0001-7.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/Hungerford5.jpg

March 12, 200817 yr Author Found out some more :cheer: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/hungerford2um6.jpg These photos were originally published in the July-September 1988 issue of Graceland Express. It also has this information: Additional note: We have recently received a call at Graceland from a fan who has some Hungerford furniture with Elvis´s name on it, so it looks like the company did indeed put out an Elvis-endorsed line of furniture, at least in a limited manner. Collectors might want to hit the rummage sale circuit and keep an eye out for surviving pieces of this furniture. It´s probably got some value on the collector´s market. Apparently Rich Hungerford wrote "The Hungerford Furniture Company had plans to release a line of Elvis Presley furniture in the spring of 1957 that never materialized. The set would have included 40 pieces, from record cabinets to dining room tables, with prices ranging from $39 to $340." Here’s the photo mentioned before of Elvis ‘smiling’ http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/hungerford3cz5.jpg
