Isn't it kind of sad that there is only one national final left this season? But it's the BIG ONE! Alot of countries have made very bad choices this year, but after listening to the 10 Swedish finalists, I find it hard to picture any of them being a bad choice. I know I'm not allowed to post mp3's on here, but if you go to eurovisionbelgrade2008.blogspot.com you can find all of the newly released studio versions.

Now, anyone on this forum who has read my comments may realise that they differ slightly to alot of people on here in that I am not usually a fan of "traditional Eurovision songs" I find them boring and I like variety. Now Sweden this year have definitely gone for the most part for the traditional Eurovision thing....but they do it VERY VERY well. Here's what I think of the finalists.

SONG 1 - Charlotte Perelli - Hero

It took me two listens to get this, but I totally get it. I do like it when past Eurovision contestants return, and while I wouldn't go all out and say it's a winner, it could definitely equal "Invincible" as it is good catchy modern schlager sound, complete with a very anthemic key-change. Each forum has their own taste, but Buzzjackers, if you haven't heard this one yet, I know this is the one you will love.

SONG 2 - Sibel - That Is Where I'll Go

She just scraped into the final from the second chance round. She seems like a lovely girl, very pretty with a great voice. It's a lovely ballad, and I would be happy for this to represent Sweden, but in this final, it fades into an obscure 2nd place as far as ballads go.....see song 7.

SONG 3 - Rongedal - Just A Minute

The song that beat Carola! The two very eccentric lead singers put me in mind of Right Said Fred, but the song itself is very Scissor Sisters. Personally I love it, although if past habit is anything to go by, I can see Sweden playing it safe with a schlager after being adventurous last year. That said, if this has the strength to beat the established names and big songs in this final, it would be worth a bet to be in the final shake-up in Belgrade. Watch out for this one on Saturday though. Stranger things have happened.

SONG 4 - Linda Bengtzing - Hur Svart Kan Det Va

Sadly, the draw in the running order probably kills off the chances of this song, which is a shame as it should be illegal for a song to be this catchy, despite it being in Swedish. I am all for songs being in languages other than English, although should this make it to Belgrade it would probably be translated. I doubt it will come to that though. I'd love to be proved wrong.

SONG 5 - Christer Sjogren - I Love Europe

OK, so there was bound to be a dud in there somewhere. I've never seen this performed, but from what I've heard, it's TONY CHRISTIE!! This sounds very dated, and the kind of dated where it probably wouldn't even have been cool in the time it sounds like it's from! Very cheesy, but since most of the songs in this final are sort of cheesy, this just takes it overboard. No No and No again!!

SONG 6 - Amy Diamond - Thank You

OK I can see this being popular on this forum too so let me just say this. It is a catchy song, well produced and arranged with a strong chorus. I don't have a problem with that. But Amy Diamond (who is 15 for those who didn't know) annoys the living daylights out of me. I'm sorry but that is just the way I feel. I cannot STAND child stars, especially spoilt smarmy ones as Amy Diamond comes across. Her live vocals don't do the song (which is quite good) justice, so for this reason I don't want this to win.

SONG 7 - Sanna Nielson - Empty Room

There is nothing original about this song whatsoever. It's a ballad that we've heard many many times before and is so predictable. However......I don't care!!! I just love it, Sanna is a great singer, very down to earth and it just piddles all over the ballads from Poland, Hungary, Serbia and whoever else has sent one this year. We were missing a traditional Eurovision ballad last year, so PLEASE Sweden, be brave and send your first ballad for a long time to Eurovision!

SONG 8 - Nordman - I Lagnornas Sken

Another song from the second chance round last week, and the one that was the final nail in the coffin for Androla. This is probably the most different song of the lot, very folksy. It's alright, and while I like this slight hint of variety in the Swedish final, I can't see this being too much of a threat, and would probably be the wrong way to go in Belgrade.

SONG 9 - Frida feat. Headline - Upp O Hoppa

Again, quite different....bubbly Caribean sounding pop from Frida here. It's feelgood stuff and has a really good hook, but I think it's too light when pitted against some of the more anthemic uptempos and ballads. Again, like most of the songs, I like it, but it won't win.

SONG 10 - BWO - Lay Your Love On Me

More typical Swedish Eurovision pop from BWO. I like BWO and I would like them not only to get to Eurovision, but to make it big here in the UK, as they have a tried to a couple of times. Personally, I don't think this is their strongest of songs, but their prime position in the running order is bound to help them.

So PERSONALLY, the ones I would like to see in Belgrade are

1. Sanna Nielson

2. Charlotte Perelli

3. Rongedal

4. BWO

5. Linda Bengtzing

And as for realistically who I think it is between, I'd say Charlotte, BWO, Sanna, Rongedal, and as much as I hate to say it, probably Amy Diamond.

It is WIDE open though, and the majority of these ten songs could, and would deserve to make it to Belgrade. It's so unfortunate that we'll be saying goodbye to so many good songs, but it's shaping up to be a great final on Saturday.

What do you guys think of the songs?

Yes, BWO for sure. Temple of Love was robbed in 2006. I still sing that song to myself sometimes... :kink:

I downloaded the entire Melodifestivalen album yesterday and its great. I would have liked to have seen Ola, Suzzie Tapper and Carola in the final but as they are not my support goes equally to BWO and Charlotte Perelli! Here is my ranking of those ten:

1. BWO - Lay Your Love On Me

2. Charlotte Perelli - Hero

3. Sanna Nielson - Empty Room

4. Amy Diamond - Thank You

5. Frida feat. Headline - Upp O Hoppa

6. Linda Bengtzing - Hur Svart Kan Det Va

7. Rongedal - Just A Minute

8. Sibel - That Is Where I'll Go

9. Nordman - I Lagnornas Sken

10. Christer Sjogren - I Love Europe

I would be satisfied with any of my top 8 winning...I'm not so crazy over Nordman and the terrible Tony Christie soundalike Christer...

Amy Diamond is so so cheesy but her song is great

just no Amy Diamond pls!

I kinda prefer BWO's song over Charlotte's now but I hope will be on of them :cheer:

My goodness I hope it's not Amy Diamond!!

Embarassingly, I really love the Amy song  That Rongedal song is good but ridiculously similar to Mika...

oh and if the current Swedish iTunes chart is anything to go by, here is how they currently line up:

#1 Charlotte Perelli

#2 Sanna Nielsen

#3 Sibel

#5 Rongedal

#6 Nordman

#8 Amy Diamond

#11 BWO

Christer, Linda and Frida are not in the top 100...other entries from Suzzie Tapper, Androla and Ola are all in the top 15...

not looking good for BWO then...

Wow I'm surprised BWO are so low down. That's amazing that so many Eurovision entries are so successful in their own right in Sweden.

I would LOVE for Charlotte, Sanna or Rongedal to win (I think they're more Scissor Sisters than Mika)

I would be happy enough if BWO, Linda or Sibel won

I'm pretty indifferent to Nordman and Frida but they probably won't win

And I'm PRAYING that Amy Diamond or Christer don't win!!

despiete they are lower than the rest on the current iTunes update I still think it's between BWO and Charlotte :cheer:

and hope for BWO  but will be happy with "hero" too :D

I think its between Charlotte and Sanna...surely if BWO was that popular it would be top 10 on their iTunes?!? even Ola and Androla are above them and they are both out

Charlotte Perelli has the best song IMO, followed by BWO. Hopefully Charlotte will win.

I don't think we should make any conclusions really based on Swedish I-Tunes. It just shows what songs are popular among people who download music (usually the younger ones). Probably a third of the people voting on Saturday don't even know what I-Tunes is, maybe even a larger percentage.

I'm not making conclusions, merely presenting some statistics...BWO have dropped in popularity in Sweden since Temple Of Love anyway...it would be like KT Tunstall entering for the UK...she's still successful but not the same level as in 2006

Heard the whole album now.

Love almost all the songs on it.

Amy Diamond and Charlotte Perrelli have amazing bubblegum pop songs.

I really hope it's Sanna. There would be about 5 other songs I wouldn't mind going to Belgrade, but I really hope Sweden are brave and go for a ballad- because it's a corker :P

Heres my order fav to least favourite for the 10 finalists:

1. Charlotte Perelli - Hero

2. Amy Diamond - Thankyou

3. Sanna Nielsen - Empty Room

4. BWO - Lay Your Love On Me

5. Sibel - That Is Where I'll Go

6. Linda Bengtzing - Hur Svart Kan Det Va

7. Rongedal - Just A Minute

8. Frida feat. Headline - Upp O Hoppa

9. Christer Sjogren - I Love Europe

10. Nordman - I Lagnornas Sken

Love those top 3 songs so much

All the songs are great imo except for 8, 9 which are still good, Nordman is awful though.
