Bit predictable but,

Aerosmith - Nobody's Fault [1976, Rocks]

Middle-aged woman ballads aside, this Rocks 70's album-classic is one of their closest record that comes close to metal. Famous for inspiring Guns N Roses ex-guitarist Slash to pick up and learn the guitar, has helped influenced some Metallica's work and with the album 'Rocks' being one of Kurt Cobain's most favourit albums of all time. Check it out!

Had to add this one

Bomb the Bass - Bug Powder Dust #24 (Oct 1994)

Not letting this die!

Here is probably the ultimate list song about true artisitic giants

A House - Endless Art

And then they realised that no women had been included so...

A House - More Endless Art

I was going to post Wordy Rappinghood by the Tom Tom Club but went for this one instead. Thomas Dolby, She Blinded Me With Science.

Norma

I love She Blinded Me With Science. I remember having to go into Southgate Our Price and having to order it specially as it never went Top 40.

Here is a song that time has forgotten from 30 years ago........................

Genesis - Match Of The Day (1978 - The last thing they did as a 4-piece with Hackett)

Sorry can't get past the truly awful vocals!

And that has to be the most insipid song about football ever.

That Petrol Emotion - Big Decision

It might be over 20 years old, but having heard it used as a musical bed to cover Gordon "Bottler" Brown Prime Ministership was sheer genius.

"You'd rather sail the ocean, than make the big decision....."

Oh Good choice there! They did so many good singles but never reached the Top 40.

I've just seen this track featured in a really good advert, so hopefully it will appear on the iTunes top 120 soon, unless too many teenagers are typing in Blur, Gorillaz or The Good The Bad & The Queen in error.

The Kinks - Shangri La (1969)

THE GOD MACHINE - HOME (1992); Album "Scenes From The Second Storey"

A criminally under-rated, and ignored act... But it's safe to say that these guys are basically the missing link between Sisters of Mercy/Fields of the Nephilim and bands like My Dying Bride and Opeth.... I would argue that the whole "goth metal" thing was pretty much their invention.....

APHEX TWIN - DIDGERIDOO (1990); Album - "Classics"

One of the first Aphex tracks that I heard... This is just totally bloody hypnotic if you're in the right frame of mind... Amazing stuff.... Total Trance Techno.... Please excuse the unmitigated crapness of the video, just close your eyes and let the music give you the images in your head.....

Both The God Machine albums are fantastic and are highly recommended.

That Carbon footprint ad has been out a while so I don't think The Kinks are going to be hitting the charts soon.

Here is my recommendation - the video is ropey but the track is a Brit-psych classic from 1966.

Pretty Things - L.S.D.

I preferred the Pretty Things when they went psychedelic & folky on their S.F. Sorrow concept album:

Pretty Things - Private Sorrow (1968)

I have always preferred their rock-psych stuff like Defecting Grey and Mr Evasion. Unfortunately not available on youtube but SF Sorrow is a brilliant album.

Defecting Grey was the first track I went looking for, but as that stand out track was not there I used Private Sorrow instead

Talking brilliant British psychedelic rock that is not Pink Floyd.....

Here is a track that was the last thing they ever recorded together... bar a lacklustre reunion mid 1970s after Rod Stewart had left the Faces.

Small Faces - Autumn Stone (1968)

For me Steve Marriott had a much better voice than Rod Stewart.

Both The God Machine albums are fantastic and are highly recommended.

They certainly are... Of course, they're totally bloody impossible to get now outside of E-bay auctions or illegally downloading off torrent sites....
