Jark, I think the main problem here is that you're, at best, a very casual observer of Goldfrapp and their music.

I'd hazard a guess the only album by them you own is Supernature - I notice in each Song of the Year contest, you fail to give Goldfrapp classics like Strict Machine, Train, even Ooh La La, any points.

It seems only a few select tracks from Supernature, and A&E, you actually like by the band?

And as for the new fans spoiling the last tour - yes, they did, absolutely - it wasn't a lecture, merely an observation - because I was there, and because I've seen Goldfrapp countless times - the first time in a pub in Bristol where all the band had to play was the debut album (which, for the record, everyone loved back then). This new audience deliberately spoiled anything that wasn't off Supernature (some even speaking loudly on their mobiles when the really slow songs from the first 2 albums were played) - much to the displeasure of Alison Goldfrapp herself, actually - which is apparently one of the reasons Goldfrapp steered in such a new direction for the new album. They didn't want the pop fans following them. And it appears, thankfully, the pop fans have left them. Somehow, I don't see Alison and Will being too upset by this - they probably feel liberated if anything.

I think Happiness has done brilliantly, considering. Goldfrapp, from anyone's perspective, are head and shoulders above everything else in the charts right now, aesthetically, musically and artistically, and it seems wherever they step, the rather sad likes of Kylie and Madollar will follow. That a band as out-there as Goldfrapp even make the top 75 is affirmation enough, i think.

give that dude a pumpkin he's nearly god!!!

btw for my sins - was reading nme the other week (i think it had liam fray on the front but cant remember as this mambo right said fred record i've got on is warping my brain  ) and the reviewer was talking about some record that was a big electro glam stomper and said that this would fit wonderfully on goldfrapps's first album - so obv never heard Utopia or Lovely Head (still perhaps the best goldfrapp records ever)

That's pretty much the impression I get as well tbh......

Yep, I agree with that statement... I was at Brixton Academy and got INCREDIBLY offended by the tw@ts next to me on the balcony prattling on during the sublime "Utopia"... I got seriously p!ssed off, turned to them and said "excuse me, but could you actually SHUT THE FUKK UP PLEASE????" in my most pissed-off Scottish brogue... They actually did.....

Did you read my response? It seems not...

I stated that I don't hold Train in any high regard, I dislike Ooh La La somewhat (and it's FAR more 'commercial' than Number 1, btw, and tackier too), and I merely left Strict Machine out by accident.

Thankfully I couldn't care less if you don't believe me to be a true Goldfrapp fan, but I attempted to persuade my friends to buy tickets to come and see them live with me, I own their 2 most recents albums, I pre-ordered A&E on CD such is my love for it...I am a fan.

"Ooh La La" is a bit sh"t to be honest.... I really dont like it at all.... It sounds like Kylie Minogue trying to do a T-Rex song... Awful stuff, totally unworthy of Alison's vast talent... "Supernature" is, I will always maintain, the most underwhelming, underachieving and LEAST of all Goldfrapp albums in terms of actual music... "Number One" is almost as bad - like a Gary Numan or Human League song in drag....

"Train" is a great song, much better than anything on "Supernature", the "Black Cherry" and "Felt Mountain" albums are records you really should listen to, if you claim to be a fan of Goldfrapp.... You cannot possibly get a full picture of the band if you have not heard all their works.... Sorry to sound like a snob, but the "bandwagon jumpers" really pissed me off at the Brixton gig with their sheer lack of respect.....

Aye, I will invest in Black Cherry in time, and then move on further backwards still to Felt Mountain. I think it's better if I really get a true idea of just what I think of Seventh Tree first though, because I can't decide how I feel about it just yet...

I'm with the band on this totally... After having to suffer the same sort of morons at the Brixton gig that you did at the gig you went to mate, I'd frankly rather see Goldfrapp play a more intimate venue like Islington Academy or the Camden Underworld for around 500 appreciative, loyal fans than put up with annoying tw@ts who spoil my night with their inane chatter

Oh, and on the tube home, I had to suffer some stupid bint saying to her mates "Well, she kind of loves the sound of her own voice..."... To which I replied "Well, yeah, considering she has a voice that's worth listening to.... UNLIKE YOURS....".... Fukkin idiots.... Pearls before swine innit....? Why even go to the bloody gig at all if that's the sort of attitude you have towards the artist....? <_<

"Felt Mounain" is truly one of the great albums of our age really IMO (and this is something i dont state lightly....). I'm gonna be doing a run-down of my own favourite 100 albums of all time, and a list of my fave 20 Divas (Alison will almost certainly feature in both of these lists...), with YouTube clips and all.... Once I get my ass in gear and compile the lists that is.... LOL... Watch this space....

I'll look forward to that. Enjoyed your other lists.

The way I see it is, Seventh Tree is a kind of commercial and 'lesser' Felt Mountain sort of, the same way Supernature is to Black Cherry. Mind you, I still thoroughly enjoy all 4 of their albums.

Cheers mate, I kinda lost my track with the Metal one though, my list went missing when I moved house.... I'll have to start it again from scratch somettime....

I own all four albums and have been a fan since 'Black Cherry'. Though this information is entirely irrelevant to the relevance of stature of my opinion.

For me 'Seventh Tree' is BY FAR their weakest album. It musically blends into one for me and often feels scarce and without identity. The stripped back nature of the album also reveals several horridly written lyrics too which make me cringe whenever I listen.

For me it's nothing new for Goldfrapp and is a rehash of old ground. They've moved so far forward over the last 8/9 years. 'Supernature' whether you liked or not was a gutsy album and somewhat experimental imo. The music mixed excellently with her vocals too. Better dare I say than it does on 'Seventh Tree' where I feel she becomes uniform and similar to far too many other singer/songwriters, a real loss of idiosyncrasy.
