I think that things have changed and Darius himself doesn't know. I take that as a great sign, it's good to have choice.

I think you're right

Darius never makes a definite statement unless he's sure. When he was expecting to do 6 months in GWTW, he said the album would be next.

He's suddenly got a 4 months gap in his schedule. If there were arrangements made for him to work on the album with certain people in October, Darius may not know yet if any of those dates could be brought forward. If they can't, then he may have time for another project in between.

I hope there's something nice and juicy to entice him to stay in the UK.

well I keep telling myself this could be positive, after all he has shown what he an do to a lot of people, AWL and the likes attending the show - its all experience and not at all his fault the show closed early,
He is brilliant in it - as is Jill. Well, as are the rest of the cast but, Darius and Jill are very, very much the stars.
and I believe that Curtains is closing on Broadway so Jill will also be very upset that many of her colleagues and friends on that are now in the same position.
Nice picture, but not the same.

I haven't posted this over on .net as everyone over there is so excited about seeing the show atm!! :D

The following article is on Neil Sean's Licensed to Spill page in this week's New Magazine:

'Darius is blown away

Poor Darius Danesh's latest hopes for West End glory have ended in tears. His musical Gone With the Wind opened in April to dire reviews and is now finishing its run early, with the final performance happening this week.

Darius, 27, was 'distraught' when he first heard the news, although he tells me that it's not over just yet. "We all lost money in the production, but there is still a chance we can pull it back by going on tour and there is talk of Broadway," he said. "I got to play Rhett Butler in a brand-new West End show, so it's not all bad. But I wish it had gone on longer than it has."'

!!!!!!

How on earth could GWTW go on tour with it's complicated and complex staging?!!! Darius has never mentioned this to any of us!!! Does anyone think this could be possible or is Neil Sean making this up or possibly misquoting D as a lot of the media are very prone to do!!!

thanks Julia. Perhaps it would have been better on broadway first before here. I notice neil sean was careful to leave out the great reviews that Darius himself got and so it goes on. Michael ball appeared in woman in white on broadway which had a short run of 109 performances and then kismet which got bad reviews but nothing was said in his case but that oks of course. Regarding the complex staging perhaps it would be better and cheaper without it.

of course you are roght Preston, plenty of others have had roles in less than successful productions,

the media is just rubbing its hands in glee implying Darius is a t fault some how..its always been the same

I would love to see the show bounce back somewhere an dwould deayl love daiurs to and another great role - I am sure theatre land has made note of his talent, surely it needs fresh blood, they keep on hanging onto the same old names, some who are surely getting past their prime..

I think it's the usual IMHO Neil Sean dross.

The biggest changes would have to be in the movement on and off stage of the various characters.

The scenes don't actually take place in the buildings, do they? Maybe projection/ traditional backdrops would work. I saw it used very effectively in Rebecca a few years ago.

Not sure what they could do about the split level set but I think I heard Zorro has one and it toured.

A cut down stage is quite possible. It can be easily altered for a tour. Maybe a few less cast members? No sign of Trevor but Colin and Aldo seemed really happy
possibly, it could be that as Ray shell implied Trevor would have had a mutiny if he had cut out any more, hubby said the Prissy song and the every child song could have gone, I must admit that trying to fit th eactual story of GWTW into the time was hard enough, without adding some extra unrelated stuff about being a teacher, and loving children..and the scene where Scarlett wants to put the kids to bed. he owuld need ot re cast to make sure the ensemble would have their roles ofmr the start, not have songs etc taken from them as time went on.
As long as Darius and Jill were there, I'd go. Jill and NaTasha will be back in the States though.

The problem is the story at the beginning moves so fast. I love the horseshoe stage but I think theatre in the round may be more complex with such a large cast.

You meet all of the people at Tara - the O'Haras, their children, their slaves and their overseer, then Dilcey and Prissy, and within minutes the Wilkes, The Hamiltons and all the young beaux by name, then Rhett and within a further 15 minutes the same people you've just met at the barbecue have new wigs and are different people being introduced by name in Atlanta.

Maybe on a traditional stage with a curtain between scenes it wouldn't be quite so much of a whirl or on TV/film actors would be cast for each character - no doubling/tripling up.
