I would like to see a fresh role but would be worried about its longevity so he must choose wisely. Regarding the album also a worry without being in the country, being away for a long period and query on airplay.

The way the music business has deteriorated recently makes it a very dicey profession. Lots of 'flash in the pan'

artists who disappear very quickly.

I'd be happy with it on line. I'd prefer a hard copy but, really, just to have the music would do.
This 'online' business confuses me, so give me the DVD, obsolete cassette, or nearly obsolete CD any day.
I'd rather have physical but, if it's download or nothing, I'll go with download. I don't always like the quality of the recording that way but, it's better than nothing.
I wonder if he would risk a 'new' new role after the last debacle.

It was hardly a debacle and for Darius it was the exact opposite, it was a personal triumph.

It's not Sir Trevor's Nunn's fault if the critics went in with preconceived perceptions about whether it should be done or not because the "heroes" of GWTW are slave owning racists. Margaret Martin's 21st century retake on that was dismissed as artificially added on.

They snobbishly criticised the narration but IMHO the majority of it was necessary. How many people are au fait with british history let alone the American Civil War? I studied History(Scottish and European History) to Higher Ordinary (second year) level at University, but I've got the sketchiest knowledge of the English Civil War and of English Kings pre-Henry VIIIth because I wasn't interested enough. I know only of those who thought they could subjugate Scotland like they had Wales. Other than that, what I know, I've gleaned from literature rather than studied.

Neither was it Sir Trevor Nunn's fault that the critics who complained had probably not read enough of the book to realise that Darius and Jill were playing the characters as described in the book, assumed they were taking off Gable and Leigh and appraised them on the basis of what they remembered of G & L's performances in a film they may have seen perhaps once all the way through.

Dictionary definition of 'debacle' - a sudden disastrous collapse.

From Collins Complete and Unabridged Dictionary.

I repeat 'I wonder if he would risk a 'new' new role after the last debacle.

For any guests reading Baytree's post may I make it clear that none of the rest of Baytree's post relates in any way

to anything I have ever posted.

Edited by Bramley

Baytree has answered with her opinion and that is as valid as anyone else's. She says that it was a success for Darius and then goes on to why she thinks there were problems.

We try not to take things personally and enjoy debate and disagreements. It's the differences at the way we look at things that make this forum so good. I don't feel it was a sudden collapse either. It seemed to be undermined from the beginning. I feel that it was against margaret and Trevor and that the cast came of very well.

Baytree never suggested the rest of her post related to yours - just, by putting in a quote, that yours had started her chain of thought.

Having said that, I do like different ways of looking at things. I'd hate us to have to start treading lightly in case we upset anyone else. You end up with a meaningless forum that way.

I never said that anything was the fault of Sir Trevor Nunn, nor that critics went in with preconceived perceptions, etc,

yet the post reads as if I had made those accusations. Based on other postings by BT I know that was not her intention,

but that was how the post came over and I do not want people believing that I have made such accusations. Therefore

I feel justified in making this clear. I hope this has not upset you, BT, but I couldn't ignore something which ,even

unintentionally, gave such a false impression. Now, after a very late night out , I'm off to bed.

It didn't give that impression to me at all. Another difference in perception.

My view.

I think to understand some of the critics points on the narrative you'd have had to see one of the earlier performances. After the first preview, I felt the first half was OK but, just OK. The amount of narrative did not help. By mid May, the amount of narrartive was about one third of the amount originally there. To be told someone was doing what you were watching them doing was a bit off. For me, the play improved with that type of cutting.

I think it also benefitted from having less songs. I do feel that the first preview was too early and that was Trevor's fault. I think the show had reached a standard by opening night, of being very good - it was even better later on. Some cuts didn't do the show justice but most seemed to. I did feel that so much was against the show in all the whispering going around, before anyone had heard any part of it, that trevor and Margaret would have a struggle. If he wasn't famous and successful and buttered up critics and she wasn't a first time writer who had the nerve to produce something good enough to put on, then GWTW would have probably been accepted as a great peice of theatre. I think somme perception in a few critics came from preview runs - which again, was wrong.

I still feel cheated that it isn't still running and it would be so unjust if this project just dies. It deserves so much more than that.

They did have it against Margaret from the word go.

But she did irritate me when she compared herself to Scarlett as a single mother raising children on her own....

.....for someone who has studed the book I found that strange.

...Scarlett didn't care about her children and as far as I understood the book it was others who did the bringing up of them.

...3 husbands, money for the most of the time and help doesn't make her a struggling single mum

Six days ago Simon Cowell was said to have dumped Terri Seymour. Now this;-

Simon Cowell's rocky relationship with Terri Seymour is expected to come under further strain after he invited ex-girlfriend Sinitta to come on holiday with him.

The music mogul wants Sinitta and her family to join himself and Seymour on their month-long Caribbean Christmas break. They will jet off together after he completes work on X Factor at the end of the year.

Cowell has not discussed the matter with Seymour as they are not on speaking terms following a series of rows. However, insiders have said that she will be infuriated by the news.

Some relationship !

A man like SC.....I would find hard to trust.....depends on Terri's expectations....she must know him

The rest of the article tells of her expectations;-

"His Christmas and New Year break is Simon's only proper holiday of the year before he flies off to the States to record American Idol," a source told The People. "He's invited Sinitta, her husband Andy Willner, and their two children along with other trusted friends.

"At the moment because he and Terri aren't talking he hasn't spoken to her about the holiday so she doesn't fully know what the plans are."

Seymour was reportedly devastated when Sinitta publicly claimed that Cowell would never marry her earlier this year. Sinitta suggested that their relationship is doomed to fail because the talent show judge is incapable of being faithful.

The insider added: "What Terri wants most in the world is to marry Simon and have kids. So for Sinitta to come out and say he would never settle down with her really upset Terri."

I felt sure that Sinitta had been on holiday with them before. Any real insider would keep quiet.
I have no idea - I thought that division had been sold at the same time as the rest of it.
