Snippet from another site. quote saw lee in the audience at a workshop performance of a new musical based on marc bolan called 20th century boy, it was quite impressive, and the guy playing the lead was george maguire who i think was one of the original billy elliot boys, also in the cast was ashley j russell who was in I.D.A , i just wondered if lee might be after the role, i can see him as marc. also in the audience was darius.

Interesting.

Lee Mead has the right look for Marc Bolan and a boyish face.. Whether he can sing like him is another question.

Darius is a great mimic - he can take on accents and even sing in them without breaking out of character for sustained periods and there's also that natural charisma/ stage presence which Bolan definitely had. However, that said, I don't think Darius would have been there eyeing up the role. He's way too tall to be Bolan. Marc Bolan wore top hats etc. Darius would look seven feet tall again. Where would they find enough guys big enough to play T Rex?

Lee has tht curly hair look that marc bolan had tho.
I know the casting director David Grindrod once said they can make actors look taller or smaller but I think other than cutting off his legs, there's no way on earth Darius could be shortened by much. We've all seen Darius trying to shrink down by slouching - he's still remarkably tall. The bend in his legs during the choreography of G & D looked incredibly difficult to hold to me but despite that he was still bigger than the others.

We won't know why Darius was there but it's been quite a week, hasn't it? - singing at the Albert Hall, filming for a TV show and perhaps also keeping his eye on theatreland - makes me wonder if he squeezed in any writing and/or recording.

Give us say 3 weeks and we'll be moaning about no news again, I'll bet.

Regarding Ds height, there has been a long thread on WOS re height in musical theatre and apparently although it isnt official les mis do have restrictions and it does appear to have some effect in other musicals.
Restrictions, like rules, are there to be broken or bent a little. Only an idiot would turn away a brilliant performer.

You couldn't get much more of a difference in height between performers than in Guys and Dolls.

Darius worked mainly in scenes with Louise Dearman who's quite petite and slim and with Sean Williamson who's medium height but cuddly with it. I think the contrasts added to some of the comedic moments of the show yet somehow or other, you didn't seem to notice it so much in the romantic scenes.

True Louise dearman was tiny, she is getting great reviews for her part in Evita.Seems the theatre sites have jusgt discovered her.

Is the tour not finished or about to finish? I'm sure I read something linking Louise to something else which was going to open. She has a lovely voice.

Also in my pile of mental snippets is that I read she was Dec's ( Ant and Dec) girlfriend. It stuck in my mind because it wasn't that long after G&D.

I thought both the girls in G&D were brilliant. We were very lucky seeing it with that casting.
The ensemble, especially the guys, were absolutely great. I think quite a lot of them had come from the West End production.

I got info today about this year's Night Under The Stars. Darius isn't listed and I don't think he will be.

"This year's event stars Roger Moore, Aled Jones and Gloris Hunniford and features much loved works performed by rising talents of the international music scene.

Valeriy Sokolov - Violin, Martin Grubinger - Percussion, Teo Gheorghiu - Piano,

The orion orchestra conducted by Toby Purser."

Not my cup of tea at all. That'll save me a small fortune then.

That should, of course be Gloria Hunniford.

Date - Tuesday 2nd December at 7.30pm Concert and receptions at the Royal Festival Hall
