pretty good, prefered track 1, not keen on the vocals, like the music though...

Takes a bit of getting used to, like I say, they're more full-on. I call em the "Death Metal" of EBM......

Why are you posting this in the dance forum?!

Ummm, because it's 'electronic-based music....' Please actually listen to it before asking daft questions please; the "Death Metal" comment was a joke btw.......

Where should I put it, Metal? Indie? Pop?

Hocico are an underground EBM/Electronica act. Do you think that Dance/Electronic music is just the commercial pish that infests the charts....?

Oh, my god I just realised, you're the actual MOD!!! I can see I'm gonna have to actually explain this to you...

EBM stands for "Electronic Body Music" - the key word being 'electronic' here. It mainly gets played in underground and fetish clubs such as Slimelight, Torture Garden and Synthetic Culture in London..

EBM is an offshoot of Industrial, but has a more dance-oriented style. Sure it sounds a bit rough and ready, a bit dark, but hey, don't listen if you cant handle it, I'm only exposing people to summat a bit different from the usual mainstream chart sh!te; but it still qualifies as Electronic music, so I dont see why I shouldn't post it here....

I had the same reaction at first. A long time ago had the same reaction to the Chemical Brothers stuff.

No bad idea to extend ones reach in music taste, even if at first it seems just strange.

That's just fukkin' bizarre..... I just wonder if anyone actually has a clue on this Forum as to what actually constitutes the whole range of Dance/Techno/Electronic. I also wonder what the reaction would be if I put on some Aphex Twin or LFO vids...

Considering I went to illegal raves back in the early 90s, and still occasionally go to clubs, I've got a pretty good idea of what it is. I frankly felt a bit insulted when I was being questioned on my inclusion of Hocico.... Fair enough if the person don't like it, but to actually question its validity as electronica or techno is quite wrong IMO, because it clearly does fit the category, even if it is a bit darker than the usual more fluffy, frivolous Dance (most of which, let's face it, wouldn't be out of place in the Pop Forum - I wouldn't start a Goldfrapp, Groove Armada or Infernal thread here, I'd do it in Pop, because that's basically what they are...). I mean, there aint no EBM/Industrial/Dark Techno forum, so I put it in the place where it fits best, I don't see why I should be questioned or second-guessed.....

I've put vids of a couple of Goth bands over on Punk/Metal, strictly speaking it doesn't quite fit, but the two Johns are savvy enough to know that it fits best there

I'm not questioning it's validity as dance, I'm sure your right. It's just not the type of music that I'd hear via music stations and dance clubs. I'm mainly a Radio 1 and Ministry Of Sound listener so this type of hard dance doesn't normally get to my hears.

My impression of the above is that I love the music, especailly the first one, that could be turned into a decent commercial track if only the vocals changed. The problem for me is the guy that sings, his voice is aweful, truely rubbish. Just my taste I know, but I much rather have a softer singer that you can hear, even claris singing would be an improvement to be honest.

A softer style of vocal wouldn't really suit the aggressive over-all sound of the music I don't think, I think you just have to be in the right frame of mind for it, believe me at 4am in Slimelight, a bit of Hocico is just what the doctor ordered; I've seen them play live, really awesome and full-on. I should point out that the vocals are actually put through a distortion box, so it's not that the bloke is that terrible an actual singer. I've actually been to one of Ministry's 'Noisy Dirty Sex Music' nights and they played some Covenant and VNV Nation, much to my shock!! :o

I'm not surprised it doesn't get much airplay, like I say, it aint commercial or fluffy enough, there's a lot of online stations that play stuff like this though...

Actually, try the Covenant or Ayria vids, they might be more to your liking... I'll put up some VNV Nation as well; the vocals there are softer....

Ohhh I like the first one, would love to see them sing/play that live....

Track is pretty good aswell, I like these :)
