March 17, 200817 yr Semi final #2 2. Sweden Since I've been watching the contest I don't recall Sweden ever performing near the start...they usually get great draws but second isn't great for Charlotte -_-
March 17, 200817 yr Semi-final #1 1. Montenegro 2. Israel 3. Estonia 4. Moldova 5. San Marino 6. Belgium 7. Azerbaijan 8. Slovenia 9. Norway 10. Poland 11. Ireland 12. Andorra 13. Bosnia-Herzegovina 14. Armenia 15. Netherlands 16. Finland 17. Romania 18. Russia 19. Greece a truly awful start to Semi-Final 1...the first five songs are either awful or bland. Reminds me of the terrible start to the 2006 final where all of the dire songs were drawn at the start
March 17, 200817 yr Author a truly awful start to Semi-Final 1...the first five songs are either awful or bland. Reminds me of the terrible start to the 2006 final where all of the dire songs were drawn at the start I think the first semi will benefit Israel greatly. ^_^ Good song amongst four other absolutely awful ones!
March 17, 200817 yr Author Could someone also explain to me how the final places will be allocated? They can't do what they did last year I'm guessing now with having two semi-finals.

March 17, 200817 yr Israel's song makes me fall asleep...I can't see any of the first five qualifying Israel is SO going to qualify. It's the best song of the whole contest this year!
March 17, 200817 yr Hmm well IIRC no one's ever won from second place so atleast that tradition shall be upheld this year OO Negative vibes  I have faith however that the European public will pick a good song wherever it is in the line up - as long as it's a good memorable song it shouldn't matter.
March 17, 200817 yr 12 Points...Ireland, 10 Points...Sweden. mark my words ;) That is if Sweden qualify!!! It's one of the big favourites but that really is a shocking draw for them.
March 17, 200817 yr 12 Points...Ireland, 10 Points...Sweden. mark my words ;) 8 pts ... Russia  Aren't you two both forgetting something? Starting this year, only the Big Four and the host country (in this case, Serbia) qualify automatically. None of those countries are included in those five.

March 17, 200817 yr Do you think the 'Big Four' lose out by not getting put in the semi-finals? After all most songs do not catch on after the first listen, so the songs in the semi-final will have the advantage of growing on the voters. Also if someone pays 50p (whatever it costs to vote) to get a song into the final then the chances are they are going to want that song to win, so those songs will be taking a fanbase into the final too. I think that maybe the five automatically nominated countries should get to play in one of the semi-finals, maybe in the break whilst the voting takes place, just to make it fair.
March 17, 200817 yr First thing I can say is, I'm very sorry for Poland. This draw was especially unlucky for them. Norway before them has a strong ballad, so Poland will seem bland afterwards. Then right after Poland is Ireland which makes it even more complicated. Second, there is a very funny thing to happen in semi 2 with the transition between Croatia and Bulgaria - one song is so ancient, the other is so futuristic, it'd be like a time machine swap. :D Moreover, Croatia's one ends with DJ's plate scratching, and that is exactly what Bulgaria's song begins with. :D Also, the combo Moldova-San Marino-Belgium makes no good, since all three songs are unique and interesting, and being performed in a row will hinder their efforts to be outstanding. The same for Armenia-Netherlands, these are two very similar songs in a combo. Not to mention Iceland-Sweden combo, which everyone discusses now. Albania and Switzerland are another example of songs you shouldn't place in a row. I hope Switzerland will benefit from the more experienced singer and the Italian language. Lastly, last place for Portugal, mmmm, how good! :) Wish them luck!~
March 18, 200817 yr I think that maybe the five automatically nominated countries should get to play in one of the semi-finals, maybe in the break whilst the voting takes place, just to make it fair. Perhaps they should play a video of the national winning performance rather than a promo video but yes, it might make it a more level playing field
March 18, 200817 yr Perhaps they should play a video of the national winning performance rather than a promo video but yes, it might make it a more level playing field I agree. And you also have to consider that 2005 was the only time that a song that qualified automatically (Greece) won the show. (Ukraine in 2004, Finland in 2006 and Serbia last year were all in the SF, therefore giving the full song a second performance, whereas the rest of them were played for a similar length as to when the songs are reprised with the voting numbers.) I think that maybe the five automatically nominated countries should get to play in one of the semi-finals, maybe in the break whilst the voting takes place, just to make it fair. I think the big four do lose but they just cannot have it both ways. I mean if they want to qualify directly then so be it since that's the rule but then they don't really have any right to demand that their songs will be shown in the semi-final. If the big four really think they have a disadvantage I am sure they can choose to participate in the semi-final, get equal time on stage but then also take equal risk. So why on earth should the big four have both the advantage that they can concentrate solely on the final and same time get the same publicity as the semi-finalists do? That certainly doesn't seem fair. I am sure that it isn't too late for the UK to ask EBU to get Andy to perform in one of the semi-finals. I think we should scrape the big four rule. I can understand why the winner will qualify automatically (and would have no problem if they would play the host country's entry during one of the semi-finals) but there is really no use for the big four rule anyway. EBU is saying that it is because the big four donate the most money for EBU but that is simply because EBU (and mainly big four) haven't demanded new shares of payments after the Eastern European countries have become more stable and well-off.
March 22, 200817 yr Britain performing 2nd  we will be forgotten, at least we get the voting over and done with
