Mariah To Guest Judge American Idol

Mariah Carey is coming to American Idol this week. The bestselling female pop star of the last two decades will show those kids how it's done, no doubt, and maybe even give comment on some of that singing.

 

(Although, to this ear, Amanda Overmeyer already knows what to do!)

 

Mariah's "AI" appearance is part 2 of her well-constructed campaign to promote her new CD, "E=MC²" which hits stores on April 15th. Remember? I gave you a preview of the CD a few weeks ago. Last night on "Saturday Night Live,"

 

Carey-a quick substitute for the fluish Janet Jackson-performed her current single, "Touch My Body" and her next one, "Migrate," featuring T Pain with aplomb. The album is loaded with singles possibilities, so two before the album's release date is no prob.

 

I visited with Mariah backstage after "SNL" last night, and here are some tidbits I picked up. For one thing, as you could see on the show, she looks amazing. She told us she's lost 20 pounds after a rigorous diet and exercise plan. Last night, she cheated a little bit on the limo ride up to NBC, though. "Don't tell anyone, but I had two bits of a piece of Sicilian pizza. I had to have sustenance!" Her trainer, I hope, will forgive her.

 

In addition to "American Idol," Mariah is back in Los Angeles this week to finish the all important song sequencing of "E=MC²" and to polish up one or two tracks that are just, almost, not quite finished. "There are three songs you didn't hear, I think," Carey said of my early listening session. "You're going to love one of them especially. It's very old school R&B."

 

So who else was backstage at SNL? Visiting Mariah were also her manager Benny Medina, and film director/producer Lee Daniels who directed Mariah in the upcoming film, "Tennessee" which debuts at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 26th. Ironically, Carey got that role, too, when Jackson dropped out. Strange, huh? Just like last night. Daniels is so psyched about Mariah's performance that he wrote a cameo for her in the film he's shooting now called "Push," which features rocker Lenny Kravitz in his acting debut.

 

Note: Mariah's appearance on American Idol "this week" has yet to be confirmed/announced by her management. As we may remember, FMQB reported that she was supposedly scheduled to be on the show in April.

• She will be on American Idol three times: April 9th (Idol Gives Back), April 15th (mentoring the contestants) and April 16th (performance). Ryan said she will get to really work with the contestants and Mariah said she was excited about it.

Mariah said she will be performing a ballad on American Idol, which will be Bye Bye I assume! ^_^

These contestants are going to murder her songs.

 

My favourites are Jason & Brooke and they don't have the chops for them. Unless they do folky versions of big ballads which might be fun.

Apparently FLAB was only part-live...

She shouldnt perform Bye Bye... I think that will be really cheap and tacky of her to promote her new single at a Charity event (assuming she is performing at IGB). RCA wanted Kelly Clarkson to perform Never Again last year but she didnt cos they were there to raise money for charity not for her bank balance.

I say perform a song from the album or a old ballad. preferrably a cover... Like Carrie Underwood and Stand By You.

Yeaaah not too exciting. Mariah never really sings FLAB live, look at The Grammy's...

FLAB at the grammys was definately live because you are not allowed to lip sync there... awhile back a group got their grammy taken away for doing this

Parts of it do sound similar but that just goes to show innately her ability to sing and actually SING live. While as of late she doesn't always have the best performances, this is definately one of them(along with Vision of Love on BET Blueprint 3 years ago.) Simply put just because it sounds note for note the same, she added enough variation(using a strong clear tone instead of whispering, and she changed up some of what she said, and she adds a little growl right before the ending when she says yeah, yeah etc. At other awards shows, yeah this may happen and I'm not sayin that she always does sing live, because she definately doesn't... but in this case it was all her.

The conclusion is is that she can't sing how she use to. -_-

Oh come on...if you think that the whole of the FLAB performance at the Grammy's was live then your living in a bubble -_- the 2nd half was practically all mimed, all of the big notes and high notes were mimed ;)

 

Go and watch the WBT performance at the Grammy's and look at the big note at the end. If she couldn't even do that then how would she be able to do big parts in FLAB?
