So, Duffy and Adele are two biggest breakthrough artists of 2008 - and I am sure there will be plenty of new artists to come out this year.

Both their debut singles did really well in the UK and Europe, and both their albums have topped the UK charts.

So, I am asking two question:

1. Who will sell more in 2008 (singles & albums combined)?

2. Who is better?

Just asking.

Chart details:

Duffy on both counts...Adele's album is rather weak apart from three or four tracks while the majority of Duffy's album is beautiful
Duffy for both - I think Adele suffered a bit from overexposure and got a BRITS backlash, especially after delivering a fairly mediocre album.

Duffy's wins on both counts.

Neither album is brilliant and certainly not in the same league as Amy Winehouse's seminal Back To Black album.

It is obvious that the Bernard Butler produced/co-written tracks are the stand-outs on Duffy's album versus the more obviously commercial but less artistically successful tracks that sound like they could have come off (a very good) Gabrielle album therefore making it a slightly uneven listen.

Whilst Adele's album suffers from her record company mis--marketing her as being nearer Kate Nash than folk singer Kate Walsh, as the acoustic folk tracks would be far more likely to alienate the average pop fan who would be tempted to buy the album on Chasing Pavements & Cold Shoulder singles.

I've seen Adele live, she's lovely, has a fantastic personality and I like her, but I found all her songs very samey, Duffy I don't know much about, only what I've seen on tv and youtube and listened to on her album, but she wins hands down for me, with her music and voice.
I think Duffy will sell more. I think I have a slight preference to Adele, but I voted for "About the same" because I've only heard two songs each from them Rockferry and Mercy for Duffy and Hometown Glory and Chasing Pavements for Adele.
duffy for 1st question and 'not sure' on the second

duffy for both, i think she has wider appeal, that retro singing voice and style is appealing to the wider public like older people that like 60s singers like lulu and dusty springfield. duffy is distinctive and has got the adult market buying not just the younger market. just look at her amazing single and album sales already.
Duffy is the Princess Of Pop. She actually has star quality which is what both Leona & Adele prominently lack!
