What makes me laugh is Emo Girls who think Mcfly are a rock band because they play their own instruments:

PMSL..... Yeah, and I suppose they'd consider The Beatles, The Monkees or The Kinks Death fukkin' Metal wouldn't they....?

Any poll that has a 3rd rate Smashing Pumpkins tribute act as its #1 & the Heavy Rock equivalent of Mcfly in its top5 deserves all the contempt it is getting.

Beyond awful.

Led Zeppelin should be #1 period. Whilst Black Sabbath should be Top3. The fact that neither is in this top10 shows that fans who voted in this poll have failed to grasp a basic rudimentary grasp of the history of the Heavy Metal genre.

100% Truth..... Complete and utter bilge innit...?

I take it you liked my alternative Top 10 a bit more then.....

I think I'm justified in "acting all 'ard" when a bunch of clueless emo/Kerrang kids start spouting blatant bollocks about what the best all-time Metal/Rock bands were..... Evanescence? My Chemical Romance? HIM? (sorry Clare) Oh, come on...... I can remember in the days when Kerrang!! was a proper Metal mag, if they'd done a poll like this, the likes of Zep, Sab, Hendrix and Purple would've featured easily in the Top 10, as well as Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth and others. Having My Chemical Romance at No 1 is a bit like 80s Kerrang!! readers putting a band like Bon Jovi or Europe in the top slot.... Those who claim to be into Metal these days just seem utterly clueless....

I was agreeing with you!! And I already said that about HIM too so why have you put it like that when I know they was rated way to high, god it's like you didn't read my post!

did Fightstar make the cut?
did Fightstar make the cut?

You're kidding right....?

Mind you, it's the clueless tw@ts who read Kerrap, so anything's possible I suppose...

no, i'm not kidding.

LMAO Fightstar in a top 100 bands ever.

but then again like Grimly said, its Kerrap.

yeah...

anyway, they're #47 on the list B).

#47 apparently....

It's all the sissy little Emos man.... I mean, sorry, but Sh!testar in an all-time TOP 50..... LMAO....

I shouldn't laugh about it really, the likes of Kerrap and the Emos have destroyed everthing real Metal's about....

yeah have you seen that CD they gave away called 'Maiden Heaven' it's pretty much just Emo bands destroying classic Maiden tracks.
Does anyone actually have the full #100?

I can't believe they didn't put Brown Brigades cover of Hallowed by thy name on there it is amazing. :(

Kerrang had a big poll on their website where you could vote for the best band all all time, i don't have the full 100 but here is the top 10. No one really deserves to be in it except Queen and the Top 5 is just a joke, haven't Elliot Minor had like 2 songs?? I'm guessing all the 13 year old 'emos' voted about 100 times each for some of these bands.

10. Bowling For Soup

9. Queen

8. Avenged Sevenfold

7. Paramore

6 Evenscene

5. Elliot Minor

4 Nine Inch Nails

3 HIM

2 30 Seconds To Mars

1. My Chemical ROmance

WTF?

ok, the first twenty should be for example (if we 're talking only about heavy rock and metal bands):

Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Death, Coroner, Morbid Angel, Opeth, Judas Priest, NIN, Metallica ;-) , Emperor, Bathory, Kreator, Slayer, Dream Theater, Anathema, Arcturus, Tool

(......and I could easly add another ten or twenty but probably no one is intersted....... )

but if we're talking about rock music in general, this is completely different story.... then it shoul be also: Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Who, The Clash, Ministry, The Cult, Sonic Youth, Porcupine Tree....

(don't mention Hendrix, Bowie, Buckley ect cos these aren't bands)

The Jimi Hendrix Experience was a band though hon.... ;)

I dont see why you cant mention Bowie, he is one of THE most influential artists of all time.....

I like your list, but it has a tad too much Death/Black Metal IMO.... Emperor and Morbid Angel are a good example, but I just dunno how influential some of the others actually are in reality in comparison to Slayer... Slayer are a band that just about everyone can agree on as far as the blue-print for "Extreme Metal" goes.... You could make a case for Napalm Death as well...

ok, you have right about Hendrix, if you want he can be on second place, right after Led Zeppelin :-)

I didn't mention Bowie because I thought that the pool was only about bands, not solo artists.

Just thought I'll do it in equally parts and all kinds of metal should be mentioned ;-)

I wouldn't mind if these black/death metal bands were in the third ten tho.

I'm not big fan of Napalm Death so probably that's why I skiped them ;-)

Oh, and the pool is about "the best bands", what does it mean? If the pool was about the most influential and well known bands then you have 100% right.

But you have to agree that my list is way better than Kerrang's ;-)

But you have to agree that my list is way better than Kerrang's ;-)

Well, that goes without saying, LOL....

The artists who are considered the "best" tend to be the most influential, because those are the artists that tend to inspire the following generations of musicians.... When I was a teenager listening to Metal/Rock the bands I listened to from that particular generation would mention their influences in interviews, and I started listening to the likes of Zep, Sabbath, Hendrix mainly cos the bands I liked always mentioned them as being influences.... Rock/Indie writers at this time were also extremely knowledgable people and I would take their recommendations on board too....

I'll reprint my own list for you in case you missed it on the first page...

1. Led Zeppelin

2. Black Sabbath

3. Jimi Hendrix Experience

4. The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed

5. Pink Floyd

6. David Bowie

7. The Clash

8. Thin Lizzy

9. The Doors

10. Deep Purple

------------------------------------------------

Bubbling Under (in no particular order)...

Metallica

Iron Maiden

Tool

Nine Inch Nails

Slayer

Sonic Youth

Pixies

Smashing Pumpkins

Opeth

Ministry

Thoughts...?

well, not much to argue about.

Your list is pretty good

Cool you have Led Zeppelin on first place :yahoo:

I'm not sure about Thin Lizzy being in top ten tho.

And yeah I forgot about The Velvet Underground (heven't listened to it since I was a teenager) but yeh they shoud be in top ten.
