interesting tv doc on over easter.... ok, i didnt see all of the programme which was aired on channel 4 and presented by a christian.

he investigated the diciples and it threw up some rather interesting facts.

how the bible was manipulated by paul (who actually never MET jc) to create something that suited him

how paul usurped jesus's brother simon (who took over the new sect upon jesus's death)

how saint thomas founded a christian group in india (which flourished direct from its origin until the roman catholics destroyed it in the 16th centuary)

but more importantly, how saint peter is NOT recorded as ever going to rome (and thus founding the roman catholic church), in fact he appears to have been burried in jerusalem as a grave with his real name on has been discovered.

now this is highly important for western christianity. western christianity (roman catholisism or c of e) is founded on the belief that after christs death saint peter went to rome, the then centre of the civilised world, and founded the roman catholic church, even appointing 'gods reprisentitive on earth' ...the first pope. this was then the power base for christianity, spreading 'the word' throughout the known world.

now call me a cynical old bugger.... but this SMACKS of propaganda! rome manipulating the masses through a new religion that they based on..... a story. it appears that the roman politicians many years after the events, tried to use religion in an attempt to sure up their then flagging empire. they saw an opportunity to hang on to power by usurping a new movement. they took over christianity, re-branded it as their own.

even worse... in the 16th centuary they discovered saint thomases sect, which if true, was a direct link to j c. they were pure, carrying on the tradition for 1500 years brought to them by saint thomas direct from christ. the roman catholics destroyed it, all the old texts, artefacts, culture. if this is true (and there IS plenty of evidence for it) then the roman catholics wiped out true christianity.

.... and nowdays we are being sold christianity, thats western christianity, as 'THE TRUTH'. it clearly is NOT. its propaganda with its roots in ancient rome, designed to grab power and rule the masses in an era when the roman empire was crumbling. the bible is a collection of works thats heavily manipulated by people with a vested interest.

IF there really was a jesus christ, who was the son of god, then his real message has long since been lost, and god almighty FAILED to get his message across.......

I never saw the prog myself, but I'm sure gonna try and download it at some point....

It seems pretty much spot on though - The Catholic Church "grabbing power to manipulate the masses"?.... Who'd have thought eh......?

the point is though that the whole basis of western christianity is in fact... fiction. therefore the whole christian church for the last 2000 years is based on a lie... its tainted, its insecure, its flawed. you cannot build a religion that claims to be 'the truth' on those grounds, it has no more credence then any crackpot guru like david ike!

The travel of Peter to Rome is not the basis of christianity... In fact, it´s not even described in the Bible. It´s just an argument that the Roman Catholic Church uses to justify their belief that the pope is a direct sucessor of Peter, and so, has primacy over all other bishops in the world. However, this belief is not shared by the 700 million protestants (protestants began as a rupture with the Pope, so they don´t recognise his authority), and 300 million eastern orthodox christians. So it´s hardly the basis of christianity. Indian christians were not the only christian group wiped by Roman catholics either... so were the first christians in britain, back in the 3rd or 4th century. Anyway, you have to make up your mind either Thomas, Peter and Paul were actual persons who planted churches where they travelled in (like you stated in Jerusalem or India), or they are just myths ivented by whoever wrote the Bible...

now im not sure where protestants began... but unless they started back in 00ad then they too are uncertain.

i said WESTERN CHRISTIANITY.... directly or indirectly western xtianity can be traced back to rome and the formation of the catholic church.

apart from that the whole christian beginings are shrouded in mystery and uncertainty with many conflicting reports. hardly the basis for a religion based on 'truth'. 'truth' has no misconception.
