Thanks to Dave Taylor (daverictaylor@yahoo.co.uk), we are going to find out, with the most up to date charts in Britain. Also, we back track to late March 1983. Firstly this week`s top films... w/k ending 4th Apr 2008 01 NE HORTON HEARS A WHO 02 NE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES 03 NE STEP UP TO THE STREETS 04 NE MEET THE SPARTANS 05 01 10,000 BC 06 02 VANTAGE POINT 07 03 GAME PLAN 08 04 THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL 09 NE RACE 10 NE EL ORNATO A good host of new films this week. Let`s slip back 25 years, and look at March 1983... In the albums then... w/k ending 2nd April 1983 01 04 THE HURTING - TEARS FOR FEARS 02 03 SWEET DREAMS - EURYTHMICS 03 01 THRILLER - MICHAEL JACKSON 04 02 WAR - U2 05 35 SCRIPT FOR A JESTERS TEAR - MARILLION 06 08 THE KEY - JOAN ARMATRADING 07 07 TRUE - SPANDAU BALLET 08 05 THUNDER AND LIGHTNING - THIN LIZZY 09 NE INARTICULATE SYSTEM OF THE HEAT - VAN MORRISON 10 10 DEEP SEA SKIVING - BANANARAMA 11 12 TOTO IV - TOTO 12 NE POWER AND THE GLORY - SAXON 13 09 QUICKSTEP AND SIDEKICK - THOMPSON TWINS 14 NE FINAL CUT - PINK FLOYD 15 06 DAZZLE SHIPS - ORCHESTRAL MANOUEVRES IN THE DARK 16 28 CHARTBUSTERS - VARIOUS ARTISTS 17 11 HOTLINE - VARIOUS ARTISTS 18 22 HIGH ROAD - ROXY MUSIC 19 29 HAND CUT - BUCKS FIZZ 20 23 SIN OF PRIDE - UNDERTONES Album title tracks were selling well, as they were released as singles. Such as SPANDAU BALLET, and the EURYTHMICS....Previously title tracks lifted from albums didn`t always sell too well, as singles. ELTON JOHN`s 1972 album HONKY CHATEAU springs to mind, as HONKY CAT as a single, didn`t make the top 30, in the 70s. More artists had singles from their current albums, in 1983, MARILLION, U2, JOAN ARMATRADING, BANANARAMA, TOTO, and infact most of that week`s top 30 album artists had a single lifted from it. FEARGAL SHARKEY was about to wrap up, the UNDERTONES, to form the ASSEMBLY, with VINCE CLARK (of YAZOO). Keep fit was the big thing, and JANE FONDA`s WORKOUT album was in the top 40, along with FELICITY KENDAL`s SHAPE UP AND DANCE. 1983`s singles chart... w/k ending 2nd Apr 1983 01 04 IS THERE SOMETHING I SHOULD KNOW - DURAN DURAN 02 08 LET`S DANCE - DAVID BOWIE 03 03 SPEAK LIKE A CHILD - STYLE COUNCIL 04 01 TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART - BONNIE TYLER 05 02 SWEET DREAMS - EURYTHMICS 06 18 DON`T TALK TO ME ABOUT LOVE - ALTERED IMAGES 07 09 RIP IT UP - ORANGE JUICE 08 05 ROCK THE BOAT - FORREST 09 20 DROP THE PILOT - JOAN ARMATRADING 10 07 NA NA HEY HEY KISS HIM GOODBYE - BANANARAMA 11 06 BILLIE JEAN - MICHAEL JACKSON 12 12 YOU CAN`T HIDE YOUR LOVE FROM ME - DAVID JOSEPH 13 26 BOXERBEAT - JO BOXERS 14 22 BLUE MONDAY - NEW ORDER 15 24 GARDEN PARTY - MEZZOFORTE 16 13 VISIONS IN BLUE - ULTRAVOX 17 14 RUN FOR YOUR LIFE - BUCKS FIZZ 18 29 WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND - NICK HEYWARD 19 34 FIELDS OF FIRE - BIG COUNTRY 20 32 ORCHARD ROAD - LEO SAYER 21 10 HIGH LIFE - MODERN ROMANCE 22 19 WAVES - BLANCMANGE 23 36 CRY ME A RIVER - MARI WILSON 24 21 COMMUNICATION - SPANDAU BALLET 25 43 BREAKAWAY - TRACEY ULLMAN 26 NE OOH TO BE AHH - KAJAGOOGOO 27 NE TWO HEARTS BEAT AS ONE - U2 28 23 JOY - BAND AKA 29 11 SHE MEANS NOTHING TO ME - PHIL EVERLY AND CLIFF RICHARD 30 NE I AM I`M ME - TWISTED SISTER DURAN DURAN bang at number one in 83, and BOWIE not far behind. PAUL WELLER scored with the STYLE COUNCIL after the JAM. The JAM reunion coming soon without Paul, though. EURYTHMICS were doing good, with ANNIE and DAVE...One dodgy person called "me", had the pleasure of actually playing the keyboards on a version, of said song, in a re-working at a Uni gig, a few years back! All the boys favourite singer CLARE GROGAN returned with ALTERED IMAGES...JOAN ARMATRADING lifted DROP THE PILOT from the album, to the top 10 singles. FORREST re-worked the 1974 hit by the HUES CORPORATION...One of the singers with FORREST was SINNITA. NICK HEYWARD went solo, from HAIRCUT 100...NEW ORDER had the big 12 inch version only, of BLUE MONDAY in the chart for the rest of the year!! TRACEY ULLMAN comedienne broke away from tv`s THREE OF A KIND, for a few chart hits, before going stateside...MEZZOFORTE had the catchy instrumental GARDEN PARTY (later used by BBC racing). One MICHELLE COLLINS (of EASTENDERS fame) was singing backing vocals, on the MARI WILSON re-worked 1957 JULIE LONDON smash...BUCKS FIZZ kept going, as Easter approached SWEET DREAMS (the group that is), won the SONG FOR EUROPE to enter the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST for the UK, with NEVER GIVING UP. KENNY EVERETT was back on BBC1, on Thursdays, after TOP OF THE POPS, and actually appeared on TOTP, performing SNOT RAP (which this week sat at 33, in the mrib top 40). While HOPE by the brilliant WAH, could get no higher than 32. I note that DAVID JOSEPH sat at number 12, in this chart, but for the life of me, I can not remember which group he sang with previous to this. So, please remind me someone??? Here is the big finish...this week`s singles/tracks...In the physical singles this week it`s 1) ESTELLE, 2) DUFFY 3) FLO RIDA...Downloads are 1) ESTELLE, 2) FLO RIDA, 3) DUFFY. Put together it`s like this... w/k ending 04/04 45 40 SWEET ABOUT ME - GABRIELLA CILMI 44 45 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS 43 35 GREAT DJ - TING TINGS 42 31 BEGINNING OF THE TWIST - FUTUREHEADS 41 26 US AGAINST THE WORLD - WESTLIFE 40 50 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD 39 51 CHURCH - T-PAIN 38 36 VALERIE - RONSON/WINEHOUSE 37 NE HEARTBEAT - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 36 NE BREAK THE ICE - BRITNEY SPEARS 35 34 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 34 28 SUN GOES DOWN - DAVID JORDAN 33 24 ONE NIGHT ONLY - JUST FOR TONIGHT 32 30 PIECE OF ME - BRITNEY SPEARS 31 33 RUN - GNARLS BARKLEY 30 NE SENSUAL SEDUCTION - SNOOP DOGG 29 NE NEW SOUL - YAEL NAIM 28 25 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 27 23 KELLY ROWLAND - WORK 26 29 LOVE LIKE THIS - NATASHA BEDINGFIELD/SEAN KINGSTON 25 22 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC 24 20 GET OVER IT - GUILLEMOTS 23 21 WOW - KYLIE MINOGUE 22 NE CARRY YOU HOME - JAMES BLUNT 21 19 SCREAM - TIMBALAND 20 18 CHASING PAVEMENTS - ADELE 19 NE LOVE IN THIS CLUB - USHER 18 15 DENIAL - SUGABABES 17 14 9 IN THE AFTERNOON - PANIC AT THE DISCO 16 16 RIHANNA - DON`T STOP THE MUSIC 15 12 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER 14 10 WHAT WE GONNA DO - H TWO O 13 08 SOMETHING GOOD 08 - UTAH SAINTS/VAN SHE 12 13 COME ON GIRLS - TAIO CRUZ 11 09 CAN`T SPEAK FRENCH - GIRLS ALOUD 10 11 FASCINATION - ALPHABEAT 09 17 WITH YOU - CHRIS BROWN 08 05 STOP AND STARE - ONE REPUBLIC 07 06 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK 06 02 BETTER IN TIME/FOOTSTEPS IN THE SAND - LEONA LEWIS 05 04 4 MINUTES - MADONNA 04 27 BLACK AND GOLD - SAM SPARRO 03 03 MERCY - DUFFY 02 07 LOW - FLO RIDA 01 01 AMERICAN BOY - ESTELLE/KANYE WEST With the physical out, on the 2nd week of ESTELLE`s reign, she easily sells twice as many copies, as FLO RIDA. What will knock her off the top? Will it be MADONNA or SAM SPARRO? Or neither? Maybe USHER will push passed the 2 of them? Outside the 45, The MANICS slip, and PORTISHEAD surprisingly enters at 47, with CASSIE just behind. KANYE WEST clocks up 3 hits simultaneously in the top 75, JORDIN SPARKS, and PLIES/AKON also sit in the top 75. Don`t forget Next Week`s Chart, will be here on Monday. When we may find new entries from RADIOHEAD, MARIAH CAREY and the COURTEENERS...Will they all make the top 20? Find out Monday at 5pm. Edited April 11, 200817 yr by trevs

March 28, 200817 yr Sadly John, Cascada only scrape number 56, on the top 60. Say Trevs, where would it be without the downloads only? I usually follow Dave Taylor`s other thread, on another forum, but it`s off-line tonight <_<
March 28, 200817 yr Author Say Trevs, where would it be without the downloads only? I usually follow Dave Taylor`s other thread, on another forum, but it`s off-line tonight <_< Oh dear another forum, I thought this one was best! I worked out that if the downloads that were available only, as a download wre removed, Cascada would be 46. So, blame the downloads, that jump in ahead!

March 28, 200817 yr David Joseph used to be in Hi-Tension - he was the lead singer (well, there was more than one lead singer but he was one of them). As always, thanks for the charts!
March 28, 200817 yr Author Thanks Trevs :cheer: Did Kate Nash make an impact? With Happy wotsit? No, she didn`t show in the top 75!
March 28, 200817 yr With Happy wotsit? No, she didn`t show in the top 75! Merry Happy it was ^_^ I see she was in HMV`s top 20 ;)
March 28, 200817 yr With Happy wotsit? No, she didn`t show in the top 75! So Kate Nash winning at the Brits was just a fluke i suppose! lol I dont think she will have another hit off of MOB now TBH! :( (Well I suppose Merry Happy was only Limited Edition)
March 28, 200817 yr Author David Joseph used to be in Hi-Tension - he was the lead singer (well, there was more than one lead singer but he was one of them). As always, thanks for the charts! Thanks Robbie mate! Who could forget the British Hustle. I actually quite like Peace on Earth, which if I remember was the other side? Which through popular demand, became a double A, with it in the Autumn of 78.
March 28, 200817 yr Thanks for posting as usual, maybe we could ask Dave Taylor to post on here sometimes
