Posted May 25, 200619 yr I like the look of this, it's done with a sort of gritty pseudo-documentary camera style with no big-name actors (although there are a few familiar faces...) or any of the baggage associated with something like that, a quite naturalistic acting style judging by the trailer. I also have faith in it because of the fact that Paul Greengrass is involved as writer/director; he's dealt with weighty issues before - he and writer Jimmy McGovern did a very good job of telling the story of "Bloody Sunday" and didn't shirk away from telling some unpalatable truths. He also did a rather nifty job of "The Bourne Supremacy" as well (the stronger of the two Bourne films IMO...). I've got a feeling that the film actually takes back 9/11 to what it was before it became hijacked by the US Neo-Cons and used as a political weapon and an excuse to colonize the middle east; and that it was, in essence, a human tragedy and it actually focuses on the actual victims and doesn't seek to sensationalize, trivialize or come up with easy answers to complex problems.... That's the feeling I'm getting anyway. Let me know if I'm right, or way off the mark....
May 25, 200619 yr Author Isn't this going straight to dvd over here? God No! It's got a cinema release on June 2nd...... At least in London at any rate.....

May 25, 200619 yr Author Oh, in the blockbuster i was in the other day they were talking about it as if it was going to be out on dvd soon. I can't find it in the Play USA schedules, but UK Play has it as coming in sometime 'soon', it's not specific on a date though....
May 25, 200619 yr Did not see but it was kind of a quiet hit here. It got fantastic reviews for the most part, but the opening was less than expected and the press coverage dissapeared immediately. It was never going to break through to a large audience so I think the film broke even and everyone just kind of walked away quietly satisfied. Remarkably it stayed pretty clear of politics, save the occasional conservative talk-show host praising it on Fox News.
May 26, 200619 yr Author Remarkably it stayed pretty clear of politics, save the occasional conservative talk-show host praising it on Fox News. Oh dear, I imagine that was the last thing that Paul Greengrass really wanted....
June 23, 200619 yr I've just seen this and thought it was excellent. Very moving and the fact that it did'nt have staring rolls made it more realistic.
June 23, 200619 yr now wanna see nick cage's WTC film to see how a major studio film of the 911 period is done in comparison to this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1e/Worldtrade.jpg
June 24, 200619 yr Author I have a funny feeling that this will be a typical Olly Stone glossy Conspiracy-fest..... "United 93" was fantastically unsensational, no big names to distract the viewer from the seriousness of the subject, a really sobering film. The ending was so unbearably tense and terrifying. You really felt like you were right there struggling along with the passengers as they tried to get to the cockpit.... Five Stars from me....
June 26, 200619 yr I really want to see this - haven't had time recently because of GCSE's etc, and now that I do have time it's not on at the cinema anymore... Have to wait for the DVD I guess...

Well might be on at some art house picturehouses when WTC comes out to tie with that film, or might be on elsewhere. then again there's always ultraviolet to watch
June 26, 200619 yr It seems that it is on at a cinema - I always forget to check the smaller cinema round the area. Anyway, looks like I'm off to see this tonight...
June 27, 200619 yr So, I did go to watch this last night. Very good, and the people that were on that plane are definately heroes. Some of the phone-call's were heartbreaking... :( It made me think how better this world would be without religion too, it's absolutely shocking what people do. I just hope that World Trade Center movie isn't full of cliches and is made with the respect that it deserves. I really think that it is a wrong decision by having a big name as the main character.
