Posted March 31, 200817 yr Madonna To Beat Elvis' Record Madonna will trump Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Michael Jackson this week, if her latest single lands in the U.S. top ten, giving her her 37th Top 10 hit. "4 Minutes", her collaboration with Justin Timberlake, is hotly tipped to reach the top ten, which will lift her above Elvis Presley, who made the top ten 36 times in his career. The Beatles stand third in the all-time list, with 34, ahead of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson on 28. Source: Google / Updated: Mar 31, 2008
March 31, 200817 yr Who cares if she does actually manage it <_< The charts in the US are now based on airplay not on actual sales like they were when Elvis was alive B) We all know Elvis is the greatest and is still having top 10 singles thirty years after his death  Wonder if the same will be true of Madonna.

Exactly Carole, i agree with all you said :yahoo:
April 1, 200817 yr Mariah Carey's people reckoned she was going to equal Elvis' record of 18 US #1s with her recent single 'Touch My Body' but it didn't ;) Elvis is always the one they need to beat :yahoo: What is great is when Elvis beats his own record :cheer:

April 2, 200817 yr Records are fine, but not really that important. Maddona is a great artist, but if I were given the choice of who I could see singing live...... the defence rests B)

April 2, 200817 yr And I certainly agree with you two :cheer: Well, apparently they did it ^_^ Divas Break Elvis' Records Two leading ladies, Mariah Carey and Madonna, leapfrog over Elvis Presley in the Billboard charts record book this week. As expected, Mariah Carey moves past Elvis Presley and into sole possession of second place for most No. 1s in the rock era, as "Touch My Body" soars 15-1 on the Billboard Hot 100 to become her 18th chart-topper. "Body's" blast to No. 1 is fueled by a record-setting debut week digital tally of 286,000 downloads. Presley will also be nudged from his standing as the artist with the most top 10s in the rock era, as Madonna surpasses him with her 37th top 10, "4 Minutes." Previous to the establishment of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1958, the industry standard chart was the Best Sellers in Stores tally, where Presley scored his first 12 top 10s. Source: ElvisMatters / Updated: Apr 2, 2008 That said, I like this comment posted on ElvisNews that says it all  Although most people will agree that neither "diva" has the talent that Presley had, I wouldn't be too concerned about this "revelation" that they have surpassed him. For one thing, we have to acknowledge that both performers are talented, obviously someone out there likes their music. However, because you are a big seller now doesn't mean you will last. Many big sellers have come & gone. They will not be selling millions 30 yrs after they are gone. That's the difference between a "diva" and a true artist. You can't compare a current big seller with a cultural & musical icon. Regardless of Billboard or who is making the claim, you can't argue with facts & figures. Someone else will come along to knock Madonna & Carey off their thrones, but Elvis & his music will still be around :yahoo:
April 3, 200817 yr Seems as if Spantox and Sony/BMG have joined forces and if it's true, reckon we could have another Elvis hit on the way :cheer: This was posted on ElvisNews ;) Spankox wrote on Apr 2, 2008 You are right, Ruthie. Anyway there's a chance that Elvis with leapfrog Madonna and Carey if SonyBMG US and EPE will do a good job with my "Baby Let's Play House" Re:Version that I signed with them last week in New York and Elvis fans support the track and the other 10 songs from the Re:Versions album... Italian Elvis fans have been great (and I'm thanking all of them) as they've been keeping Elvis at the n.1 spot of the official singles chart for 7 weeks, setting a new record...

April 4, 200817 yr Take a look at Elvis' wonderful #1s :yahoo: Elvis Presley Record Chart Statistics Clarification: From EPE: Elvis Aaron Presley had 149 songs to appear on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Chart in America. Of these, 114 were in the top forty, 40 were in the top ten, and 18 went to number one. His number one singles spent a total of 80 weeks at number one. He has also had over 90 charted albums with ten of them reaching number one. These figures are only for the pop charts, and only in America. He was also a leading artist in the American country, R&B, and gospel fields, and his chart success in other countries was substantial. It is estimated that Elvis Presley has sold over one billion record units worldwide, more than anyone in record industry history. In America alone, Elvis has had 150 different albums and singles that have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), with more certifications expected as research into his past record sales continues and as current sales go on. Research is also underway to document his record sales achievements in other countries. It is estimated that 40% of Elvis' total record sales have been outside the United States.
