That poor kid, she'll be in care now until shes an adult, and all the while she'll be blaming herself no doubt, I dont know how people can be so selfish to their kids, its awful.

actually shes possibly better off in care, her stepdad has child porn on his pc.... imagine what may have happened if they hadnt try to pull this idiotic stunt.

Shannon mother in neglect charge

BBC News

The mother of Shannon Matthews has been charged in connection with the nine-year-old's disappearance.

Karen Matthews, 32, of Moorside Road, Dewsbury Moor, faces charges of child neglect and perverting the course of justice.

Shannon vanished on 19 February and was found 24 days later after one of the largest missing person hunt's West Yorkshire Police had ever conducted.

Ms Matthews will appear before Dewsbury magistrates on Wednesday.

Peter Mann, spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), said: "We have carefully considered all of the evidence in the file and decided there is sufficient evidence to charge Karen Matthews with perverting the course of justice and child neglect.

"We will continue to keep this case under review."

Mr Mann said despite huge interest in the events surrounding Shannon Matthews, Ms Matthews was entitled to a fair trial.

Michael Donovan, 39, of Lidgate Gardens, Batley Carr, is accused of abducting Shannon.

He faces charges of kidnap and false imprisonment and a provisional trial date for him has been set for 11 November.

Yeah I agree with you there, lets just hope shes lucky in care and ends up with a good family who will treat her right.

Might be a possibility she could live with her real father, I think he already has custody of one of her brothers.

What a family, are they trying to turn the whole Country against them, looks like they have succeeded.

I was reading about this family and was so confused as to which children had which father! The important thing now are the children, they need to be safe, that's the most important thing.

Her Step-dads uncle (the one who "kidnapped" Shannon) also tried to top himself a few days ago and was taken to a hospital. Now he's been returned to jail under constant surveillance.

They're beyond sick, anyone who could possibly subject their child to this sort of thing to gain the sympathy of the public and a nice paycheque are the lowest of the low. I hope they get publicly stoned.

I knew from the start the parents had to be involved somehow but this is beyond sick, who would do that to their child, what sane human being

Just goes to show, always look at the parents. If only people had thought of that when Maddie first went missing....

I dont think Madeline's parent had anything to do with thier disapperance. They have had the charges dropped agianst them now- And there's no point in speculating.

Shannon's disapperance- I knew from the start that something wasn't right- I knew the stepdad looked like a d!*kh**d but I actually thought the mother was innocent in all this. Just goes to show that appearances can be deceiving.

The thing that's worrying me most is, if they all planned this together as a money making scam, how were they going to be able to let the child resurface alive? scary thought.
If this is true (all a big scam) I cannot believe they THINK they would actually get away with this. They didn't really seem to plan this out very well and what's with the girl's step dad have porn on his PC! They don't seem intelligent enough to pull this off. But doing that to you're own daughter, it's just digusting how selfish parents can be. What if a child genuinely goes missing, police and the general public are going to think first "is this a scam" before they actually start search.

Let's not let the media off though - the ridiculous amount of press / mass media coverage that has been given to the McCann incident is bound to cause this kind of thing. There need to be tighter regulations on press coverage of news simply to sell papers. The right wing press reliance on Princess Di stories over the past 10 years to boost circulation is another example.

im pretty happy to believe that it is a money making scam... thats what the evidence to date points to. that uncle has not been charged with paedophillia, so whats the motive if not sexual?...

i dont think it had owt to do with that episode of shameless, im certain that if its true, its a direct result of the maddy coverage, and have said so.

I was late on hearing about Shannon actually (about a week), but when I watched the parents on the news I thought there was something dodgy about them. I remember thinking that there was something that wasn't quite right.

I cannot believe how low these people would actually sink, people do have compassion for other people and that has been abused by her mum and stepdad. People who give money and time on cases like these are going to be very cautious in future.

Hey there you

Yes I agree, that whole family is messed up! They have actually ruined it for people who actually genuinely report a missing child.

Apparntly the mum knew where she was from Day 1. Jeez.

How could you do that to your own child, what was it all for...Money ?

Hey Kate!!!

It would seem so, putting your kid through that for money.

That is disgusting, she deserves all she gets and the rest of her family that were involved in it all.

I think these people deserve whatever's coming to them. I know innocent until proven guilty and all that, but it's looking highly likely that the family was involved with her kidnapping. It's down right sick and how anyone could put their child through that it beyond me.

I know leaflets have been issued around the area of the family's home warning people not to take the law into their own hands, but like that's going to make any difference (and it looks a REALLY rough area). These people have all rallied together for weeks, worried sick about this little girl and will have given valuable time and money to help with the fund and search for her. Even if the charges are dropped against the mother then I doubt things will look good for her. She's just made herself and her family a death wish by doing this.

They won't though really will they. I mean just look at our justice system, they'll walk it.

I think it is a sad reflection of our culture in general that these people honestly believed that "stageing a Maddie" would be a ticket to easy fame and fortune.... I reckon Rob's totally spot on, the apparent "jet-setting" lifestyle and almost celeb-like status of the McCanns has led to these incredibly thick, stupid people pulling this stunt...

But there is one other thing - Bravo for the police and social services to spring into action and take the kids into care, charge the mother with neglect and so on; but isn't it a pity the police dont intervene in the case of the McCanns who, to me, are also guilty of irresponsibility and neglect as parents and should be facing similar neglect charges IMO....

Dare I say it, is it easier for the police to come down like the wrath of God on a bunch of thick "chavvy" types than it is for them to come down equally as hard on the seemingly untouchable, middle-class McCanns....? Is it a "class thing"... I rather think it is....... <_<
