Do you know what Pete? The most painful thing was that it wasn't cheap! It was £7.95 - and we only ate the roast potatoes (that's how bad it was). The cabbage was that really dark cabbage cut into strips. The menu said 'mashed carrot & swede' and I swear the lumps of swede in mine were about one and a half inch pieces - so not much mashing going on there then. I don't want to mention the cauli - but I will - instead of it being in nice little florets - it was like a whole quarter of a cauliflower - in one rock-hard solid lump. It was awful! The other annoying thing is we have an absolutely fabulous little pub / restaurant near to us and out of 30-odd meals - we've never had a bad one (and its inexpensive). Still - we had a lovely day in Liverpool - I just wish we'd gone with my first instinct and ate a meal in the Walker Art Gallery - where the food is lovely and at least all the profits go towards the upkeep of a truly lovely gallery!

well at least you enjoyed the day apart from the meal which sounds truly horrible by the sound of it,were they bust their for lunch maybe they wre busier than expected and they just put the food up quickly and tried to get away with half cooking it
do u like peas or sweetcorn or spagetti

i love peas and spagetti and will only eat sweetcorn when mixed in tuna mayo

We had a truly awful Sunday dinner today - we tried out a pub in Liverpool that I've been curious about for ages - a brilliant building - from the outside it looks a bit like a boat - but its fairly old, and it has an interesting history (I'm not giving the name away in case I get sued for libel.) They had a fabulous selection of real and guest ales and the staff were so friendly ... sadly - our Sunday roast was just awful. Is it only me that doesn't like to eat really hard vegetables with a roast? Don't get me wrong - I like raw carrots, cauli, peas, etc in salads ... but when I have a hot meal - I like my veggies fairly soft - while retaining all their flavour (steaming usually does the trick). It wasn't a carvery either so the turkey must have been that processed stuff and I think the gravy was 'one flavour does all' Bisto. When I make gravy - I make a different one (from scratch) for each individual meat.

:puke2: i know the feeling, we were at a motel for a xmas lunch a few years back and it was the worst meal ever,

salty turkey, salty pigs in blankets, salty tatties, oatmeal stuffing with no flavour and no cranberry sauce

It wasn't busy at all ... but then again ... maybe that should have served as a warning sign to us!

thats true if they werent busy on a sunday you know something is up as its always the busiest day of the week in any resturant
Those roast dinners sound awful. I don't like my vegetables hard unless I'm eating chinese food (they make the broccoli on the harder side where I go and I like it) and lumpy potatoes are just :puke2:

Roast dinners are gorgeous when they're done right. Unfortunately lately ... the only way to make certain you have a nice one is when you make it yourself ... or by a member of the family that won't let you down.

I voted for the curry....although the fish and chips were a close second.....

Eugh ... don't know how pizza has scored so many ... the worst food on the planet!

If steak and kidney pie with chips and veg were an offering on the poll, I'd definitely voted for it.....such a tasty dish, if made right....
