I liked that bit. I didn't like the wagon ride home but, this combination gave a slow motion fall timed to go witjh the slow motion action of the others running to her. I think that where Paul and I sat, you didn't get the full benefit. See how you feel next time, Paul.

I thought the slow motion bit was so good when viewed more from the centre. Our seats were the cheapest for a reason. Brilliant value though.

Bonnie wasn't there when I saw it, so it was all in my imagination....that and the slow motion bit was so effective.

I'll have to wait till I see it with Bonnie before I can comment again.

Is the reason for it having to be shown in some way on the stage not that Scarlett has to synchronise her line about "Just like Pa" etc. with the exact moment she realises Bonnie is going to fall and that the audience have to see the child's movements and Scarlett's(and Rhett's?) reactions together to get the full impact?

I don't remeber Scarlett being present when she falls BT and I am pretty sure that line wasn't used, so I don't think so. She was there after though, to the best of my recollection.

I will give it another look next time Meg, but I just didn't understand why there we 4-5 men following behind the man spinning her in mid air. I just didn't get that bit. For me, they could have cut to Rhett talking with Mammy or whoever was there at the time and then just had the child make a loud scream as she fell off. Far better IMO than this nonesense of a man carrying her across the stage in place of a horse.

They used the same idea when her father died.

I can't remember where Scarlett was when Bonnie died but I do remember her saying that....perhaps afterwards....can't remember now.

I really do need to go again.

just had to bring this snippet over from a review on WOS

Have to echo pretty much what everone has already said about this show - Jill Paice and Darius Danesh were fantastic!! Best performances i have seen i a musical for a while now!! they were both so perfectly cast. Totally agree about Melly - miscast, not warm at all! I love the actress in the movie and i know you shouldnt compare, it being an adaptation, but i had no sympathy for her - wasn`t really fussed that she died!!

The horse was the same for Gerald as it was for Bonnie. Both Gerald and Bonnie called out to Scarlett something like 'Watch me jump this' Scarlett, standing on the balcony, on realising they were the same words cried out 'Don't Jump' and you are left not knowing whether the distraction was what caused Bonnie to fall or whether she would have anyway.

I was confusing it with the film scene where Rhett and Scarlett are both out on the patio watching Bonnie. I think Vivien Leigh says abstractly "Just like Pa" then something clicks and she calls to Clark Gable to stop Bonnie.but of course it's too late.

Thanks for the snippet, prettyinpink.

Darius gets better and better as an actor in every role. I'm so desperate to see his Rhett.

Is the music that bad or is it that people expect the big sweeping film music and are presented with authenticity- a time of troubles when a generation of men were at war and bands had to be formed ad hoc with whatever players and instruments they could muster?

The music and the how it accompany's the show is excellent, but I feel some of the songs aren't. D's first half songs are not really memorable, for me anyway. 2nd half is better :) Jill sings wonderfully, but again for me there are no real stand out songs that she sings. Mammy's solo stood out the most to me and the most impressive performance(D's lullaby apart, though I may be bias) comes when all the slaves are singing together, they sounded amazing! D's lullably is wonderful for how well he sings it and for the incredible emotion he injects into it!

I am looking forward to seeing the show again :)

Can you imagine how I'm feeling.

The thing is, I've got a feeling that this show will snowball in popularity so long as the critics don't slaughter it and that it may in future be difficult to get tickets for the rest of D's scheduled run. There are so few cheaper seats in the new London at any time and at top whack plus rail/air fare plus hotel, it's a big expense to risk coming down and queuing for day tickets.

well it is getting very good reviews, as is Darius and thats 3 days into previews! I would be astonished if the POG show didnt tempt more into booking tickets.
My trouble is, I can so easily be tempted and I live near enough to go. My trouble also is, I've spent the money I should and I don't want problems. The cheapest ticket becomes £10 more expensive after it opens.

this is from a post on a theatre site (not wos) re Tuesday night's show

2 leads fantastic - Darius and the lady that plays Scarlett are EXCELLENT ! Songs instantly forgettable apart from one which was at 10 25pm (yes ok i was looking at my watch!) when all the slaves sang a group number.. lovely harmonies. .

It's definitely the music which is letting the show down. They need to give either Jill or Darius a real showstopper which they can really deliver in the first half of the show.

The American lady was saying that the songs were all sings you could along to. After 2 viewings only 4 have stuck and I don't feel inclined to sing along. But, they are good songs within the play. I just don't think they'd stand up individually. You couldn't really release any of them as a single.

I do think that The Lullaby and the duet are excellant.

Edited to say, Darius and Jill's duet. Edward and Jill's was OK.

I think they should drop as many mediocre songs as they can and work on the strongest ones, then when you hear one of the songs, it's more likely to be a good one and leave a better impression on the audience.

Is it really Rhett who distributes the lists of dead and wounded or, as in the film, does he just hand a copy to Melly and Scarlett?
