"I spoke briefly with Ben Elton after the world premier, and asked him what he thought of Darius' performance. He said he thought Darius was a brilliant actor and said he sounded absolutely great "

Which is the same as saying he's a great singer and a brilliant actor. Now where have I heard that before?

Oh yes....... on the Rhett Butler video where Colin Ingram was speaking about Darius's casting - a video which was greeted on theatre sites with a torrent of loud laughter and accusations that the video had been made especially because the producers and director had to prop up their decision to cast him.

Who's laughing now?

well, went ot the matinee show today, and I will never beleive a critic review again!! the show was great, the songs the acting the set, an dhubby enjoyed it immensly too, whihc says somethnig!! just on a high !! we thought it brilliant

other half wants to know if the show has a feedback site! he really did like it a lot, seeing he hasnt read the book or read the book - he didnt even know Rhett and Scarlett got married or she had children, just the odd things you seem to know about GWTW you pick up - and he managed to understand the story on the whole!. plus he said they have missed a merchandise opportunity, as he would have like to buy a CD of the songs -he thought if they had had them on sale in the foyuer they oculd have sold some!! we did like the songs a lot, but they have sort of gone from our memory now! but that doesnt mean they werent good - it was just they were amongst so much else! hubby thought Gone With the Wind and I'm your man especially good,

I cant beleive I was crying at the womesn song when the got the lists..and tears were rolling when Bonny died- excellent stuff, when Darius was singing you could see the tears running down his face. hubby is smug as he is sure Jill winked at him in the finale..LOL..very good reception, a lot standing - packed theatre too.

That's how the songs effect me too, pip. I think the women's song gets all of us who have husbands or sons. Your husband can go on WOS site as a guest and register that he went with his wife and really liked it. This is the first show (apart from Maidstone) that my husband wants to see.
actually I am gobsmacked heliked it, its a heavy going book and film, he only watched 15 mins of the film before getting bored, but he genuinely loved it! He had read the bad reviews and was sort of teasing me before hand..but he came out saying he disagreed with the critics completely, and he really rated Jill as Scarlett - I thought he would be bored with a love story!!
It's more than a love story isn't it? I think that's the key. Maybe a manipulation story. Except for Melanie, every one seems to manipulate someone.
It's good that he's so open minded that he can judge it as it was. I wish critics had that ability.

Oh I'm so glad you both had a great time. A night at a show in the West end is pricey but sometimes worth every penny. It's always good to get confirmation from someone who is not a fan and who won't shirk from telling you the unadulterated truth.

This interesting fact came from Mark Shenton in the Stage

In fact, it was impossible with Gone with the Wind anyway, since most of the “overnight” daily critics actually went in a night early on Monday - though Paul Callan of the Daily Express was in on Tuesday with the rest of us, and despite a 10.45pm curtain down, still managed to still get a well turned-out notice into yesterday morning’s paper, so perhaps the others could have managed it, too.

So these critics reviewed a different show - the last of the previews. One made that clear in his review. The others stayed stumm about it.

That's a con on the public.

No wonder I don't give a hoot about reviews of anything. I see what I want to see and form my own opinion.

Did you hear negativity from the people around you at Saturday's show?

As a matter of interest are the songs now listed in the programme?

They weren't for the previews. How can an audience be expected to remember them if they don't have the titles or an indication of which song belongs in which scene.

We were at the Monday show. It was good - friday's was better but, it was still very good. At olne rtime they said there were too many songs to list. Since then it wouyld have been daft to as they kept changing which ones were staying. Maybe the next issue of the program or the brochure program will have them.

mm, program was a waste of time really - the acts and songs werent listed, probably due to the constant tweaking, a woman next ot me in the bar was looking for the acts bit as she said they usually had that listed. no songs either..

didnt really hear anything apart from someone saying it was a lot better than reviews she had read, someone in the loo said her hubby had fallen asleep - a lot fo older people in the audience, a group of girls who stood and cheered at the end up top..as said we were just rushing out, leaving many stil in their seats.

I always read the synopsis and cast my eye down the scenes' locations (and where songs slot in) before the show begins. It's part of my settling in to have a great time routine. I'll really miss them not being there.

Rachel has posted links to a lot of Sunday reviews. Strangely enough the ones by females seem concerned about Darius's kissing technique.

Jill hasn't complained. She says he's nice to look at and an excellent kisser.

do the reviewers collude? one spate of them seemed to focus on the same things and then this new lot seem to contradict the previous ones about the leads etc, and conentrate on the kissing - which hasnt been picked out before...
Weoll, you wouldn't want any poitive feeling coming through, would you? they need to stamp out any thing good from the first reviews and borrow anything bad to add to theirs. They've also had their meeting now, haven't they? So they can all be sure to know the same things about the play. What a waste of time critics are these days.

I agree about the kissing thing. It's as if they met up in the ladies and didn't have anything negative to say about his performance and so threw that in to bring him down a peg or two. It's in another one I've got.

I've a few Sunday ones to add.
