Now if said critcs went back now and had the same opinion i would not be riled as that would be fair opinion.

The people who don't get it haven't seen it so don't really know how wrong the critics are.

wELL i HAVE SEEN IT - HERES MY REVIEW

I saw the show on saturday evening. All I can say is I absolutely loved it. Dont anyone listen to the critics. See for yourself. We arrived early before the show and sat at the little cafe opposite. We spoke to four people who had been to the matinee and we were told it was fantastic and wonderful. Firstly I was surprised to see the non-descript posters outside the theatre not showing the faces or names of the leads at all. Not good I felt for any passing trade. However, Darius was as everyone has said amazing as was Jill, the pace of the production was very fast and the cast had to work very hard. I felt that Darius wasnt on stage enough the first half, his deep baritone was great and hope he uses that more and more in the future. Like the songs, gone with the wind, I want to be scarlett hara again, im your man, wings of the dove and felt the weakest songs were those sung by Ashley wilkes.I couldnt fault the cast apart from saying what Meg and others have said regarding Melanie. thought the deathbedsong could have been cut, the actress did not have the warmth and sympathetic nature that I expected. The group chorus work was ouytstanding. Didnt find it too long at all, it finished at ll.10 and only two people left before then from a full house. It received a great ovation at the end but was disappointed it was done as a whole with no individuals brought forward. I spent a good twenty minutes in he ladies during the interval (QUEUE) where I listened to comments from other people. everyone loved it and there were great comments for DARIUS in that people thought he should have been singing more as he has such a great voice, one comment - its the voice that gets me every time. Another comment -[ he has come a long way.

I did buy a programme and dont know if anyone read the question and answers session with D -

Whats your next project after gone with the wind After gone with the wind I will probably have a nice break. I still write songs and would like to devote some time to that and then go on with acting. I have been very lucky and have been busy f or years, I have some scripts to consider right now but I am enjoying working with trevor nunn so that is far as I need to look for the moment.

Singing or acting - Im really lucky that I have not had to make that choice as I love them both and in gone with the wind I am doing both which is fantastic. I make records when I am not acting and act when I am not making records - its perfect.

There is another very long spiteful article on the this is london site. Cant be bothered to post it. It is noticeable that the majority of this sort of review is coming rom males. They have reverted to popstars type journalism.

- I am cool and collected regarding reviews this morning..till read yourpost BT LOL. I do feel that some of the critics dont want ot get emotionally envolved at all - and if they feel a tug of emotion, well stamp it out with old fashioned sarcasm and making it out as pathetic.

So glad you enjoyed it Preston, and good to hear the theatre was full, as it was at the matinee - I did wonder.

oh a by line the top hat, which I did think wouldnt look right - perfect, he looked wonderful in it!!! and a very clever prop !! it conveyed, to me at least, immediately how Rhett was influenced and spent time in the North,he was wearing the fashion whihc Ab Lincoln is always seen wearing and stood out from the southern style! it showed how he wasnt afraid to stand out and that he had a lot in common with the North. and when he narrated the end of the war from up high in that hat..and mentiond Lincoln, it was perfect!! very clever, it owuldnt have had the same impact if he hadnt worn the top hat onto the stage, or had it on during that bit. Its all these little touchess that I found really clever

I just get annoyed. They're like a gang of bullies in the playground - but they should have grown out of that by now. Your ball is the wrong colour so we'll say you're no good at anything. I just feel compempt. It's a shame really, it means that you can take no guidence from a critics remarks.

Is it the "Frankly This Show Is Damned" one - it's just the Evening Standard review, the one which praises Darius for his beautiful, high vocals, or is it the Nick Curtie one which has been there for ages - "Will Darius Go With the Wind?" or something else?

It is by nick curtis Baytree but I felt he has increased his outake but again perhaps I am wrong. there is a picture of Darius and Jill with the caption - Casualties: Darius Danesh as Rhett Butler and Jill Paice as Scarlett O'Hara have taken a worse drubbing than the Confederates took at Atlanta and another picture with a similar caption. and it goes on and on about every other critics opinion. It is dated friday 25 april.I dont know why but I have the feeling that someone or somebody is determined this show should fail. why are people i.eWOS etc content to keep seeing the same shows like oliver, joseph etc with nothing new. ALW thinks reality is the way to put bums on seats and so it does but is this at the expense of other non-reality musicals. Anyway i have never listened to the critics on any show I have seen and have seen loads so

I don't like that article because it seems to be throwing the blame on to the cast but the cast are excellent and by all accounts work exceptionally hard. None of the critics have said anything truly negative about any of them.

this is true, the reviews have not blamed the cast, the odd one perhaps a little unecessary!, the comments the father Ohara being a leprachaun and mocking his irish and the irish song - he was excellent, in fact he was more what I thought the character in the book would be as I found the film character not quite right somehow appearance wise,

I am suprised that Mammy's voice was picked up on in the reviews, we felt the cookies?? the one at the front at the start had a superb voice

nor have any of us as yet - I think the fact beaudarius wasnt impressed with the earlier show she saw - mentioned some things had changed and then said she enjoyed the later one on the 26th said something.

They haven't had much of a chance to lock it down and hone it.

The press night was different from the preview (which come critics passed off as the pressnight), then next day Darius did two shows with Savannah off book which I presume meant she had access to the script.

He did 2 more with the understudy and then Jill was back on Saturday. This week they may at last be able to perform the same show every night.

I'd seen ones before and after Beaudarius' view. I think part of the problem for the one she saw was that she spent the time worrying about the length and getting home. Even our 13 yr old had no problem with sitting for the longest performance on the 5th - absolutely loved it and can't wait to see it again. We just thought that we'd deal with whatever problems may turn up when and if they did, which they did, and were dealt with.

It's hard to enjoy something if something else is a constant worry in your mind.

Some of the original critics are like a dog with a bone. They've got the show in their teeth and won't drop it. So we get a succession of articles by the same people inc Mark Shenton, Mark Curtis, Charles Spencer plus that radio discussion thing.

The reviews from the second press night which are trickling in, appear to be more generous.

someone has posted about Melly on WOS readers reviews section, they loved the show, and Jil and Darius -yet thought Melly stomped and shouted and was too loud and are saying she should be recast? I must admit I found the Melly character quite OK, she seemed soft and forgiving, obviously no Olivier dehavelan..spelling?? and I thought the deathbed song- well more of a prayer carried on from her earlier prayers didnt jump out as out of place, just I suppose couldh ave been cut for time saving?..I know some did comment about the lack of sympathy felt for the character but I didnt think that was her fault, just chunks of the story that developed her nature were not long enough as in the book or film, but I still thought her total forgiveness and caring came through.

have to say I did note that someone on a forum..did say they prefered Melanies voice to Scarletts, which I did find odd as her voice was - harder?? well not as pleasent, but it didnt detract from the type of songs she was singing

It is interesting reading other opinions, goes to show how differently people percieve things.
