I remember the duet and a reprise of it. Softly.......some of it came back to me a few times since.

When he's chopping wood and she talks to him about the taxes. The music starts with softly like a whisper and then goes into his solo number. He talks about losing his home and rhett having money and than sings his solo number. He sings that he's lost and afraid and his plans have gone and longing for the past.

I can live without it quite easily.

The songs by Ashley I forgot completely, but then I suppose they are to put some meat on his character- they did give some insight into what he was actually as a person when listening to them, but not memorable as stand alone songs
I think his is probably the weakest singer but one of the best actors - I ended up loathing the character.
Funny, the only character I like is Rhett. Scarlet is too selfish and manipultative. Melanie is far too sweet and Ashley is weak.
I like Melanie but she needed more to establish her character. I quite like sweet - my Mum is.

I've warmed to Melanie.........the first show she wasn't memorable.

Ashley just annoys me.

I don't think any of the characters have enough time on stage to get their true selves across...even Rhett

I really think he should be.....and with Scarlett too

......I feel most people are there for the love/hate story

I think Rhett should be on stage all the time - let's just forget about the other characters.
It wouldn't work very well as a show then. Still, we can look forward to the gigs he'll be doing.

I can't remember any specific reference at all in the film about the freeing of the slaves but to me it was given virtually the same weight in the stage show as the love relationship between Scarlett, Ashley and Rhett.

I'd have to read the book again to see if that is true of it.

quote meg - I'd really like Rhett to be on stage more - preferable with an extra couple of songs

Why do you think hes not.

I don't think any Rhett scenes from the film are missing and the scene at Mrs Elsing's wasn't in the film at all.

I think there would be a reluctance to give Darius any more stage time. He already dominates.

But it is an usual comment that he should be in the first half more - although I can't really see how they could do it. I think he's not on stage more, Preston because it is Scarlett's story and it would be very difficult to do.

When his voice boomed out from the balcony it certainly made us all sit up and take notice. Im away tomorrow until friday night at Butlins bognor regis with the grandchildren and their mum and dad. Luckily we are staying at the hotel there. However they have an internet shop on site so I may manage to get on line but dont supposed there will be much more news for the time being.
