i use GIMP, its free and does pretty much the same thing as Photoshop.

Oooh Gimp. That's how I started with graphics, I always found it very complicated, I only ever used it for cropping/resizing things or manipulation. Personally, I've never got the hang of photoshop, I use Paint Shop Pro which actually is very simple. I think, Paint Shop Pro 8 is now free due to a bug with the software but don't quot me on that. :unsure:

 

I dont know how to use diff layers (rasters or what do u call them).

Havent got a clue how to add them.

What program is it that you use? Rasters is just a fancy name. They are the only type of layer you ever use when it comes to simple graphics.

In Paint Shop Pro; Go to the top toolbar (file-edit-view etc.) and there should be one saying 'Layers', click on that and choose 'Raster Layer'.

Or if you just want to add a picture or non downloaded texture, click anywhere on the top bar of the canvas you're working on (where minimize, maximize and close are) and just paste it in.
