And Bestival too!, UK

More summer dates are being confirmed!

We can confirm that Will is also to join a who's-who line-up at this year's Bestival event, which takes place between 5th-7th September at Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight.

He'll be performing on 6th at The Band Stand stage in the evening. More details nearer the time but get all the info on the official site at www.bestival.net

Looks like they forgot to put this one up - dated 1st April

Thanks munchkin, he's certainly going to be a busy boy this year, I wonder if he'll have the band with him at this one? it's not until the 6th of September so he could have. :D
This is only about three miles away from me, the other side of Newport. :cheer: The only trouble is that all the tickets are sold out! However, I am going to investigate whether there are day tickets. :)
Good luck Pearl, I hope you can go.

Hope you manage to sort tickets Pearl with it being on your doorstep.

Another new audience for Will to show his talent. :cheer: It's all good.

No day tickets available, only three-day ones at £139 each. I cannot justify it, even for Will! :(

Oh what a pity Pearl - but you never know something may turn up. Now all Will needs to do is to come up here - as far as I can remember he never has - not to gig anyway. :( I know of a great gig in July - just wish he could get a slot with Jools.

Which one is that chrysalis?

I've still got everything crossed that one day he'll perform at the Sage. He owes us one for cancelling the Sunderland gig.

Jools Holland & Co TT - in the Pastures at the Castle. Jools came up here 2 years ago, and is returning this year in July. Last time there was an audience of over 7000.

Now that would be brilliant chrysalis.

Will Young To Play Bestival Band Stand

Tuesday, 8th April, 2008 (1 hour ago) at 11:44 am (1 hour ago), Isle of Wight

News has just reached us that the original and best Pop Idol Will Young, will be bringing some pop panache to proceedings and playing a special acoustic set on the tiny Bestival Bandstand.

Pop fans will know that young Will is the record holder for the fastest selling debut single in UK chart history.

His silky tones have propelled him to international stardom and his Bestival appearance is a rare chance to catch him in intimate surrounds.

Not only that, but we hear that he’s also a massive Bestival fan having been to the last three.

Bestival organisers are “absolutely thrilled”…

No wonder he's excited by it bet he'll have a great time :yahoo:

The Bandstand will once again be situated in the welcoming (you won't want to leave!) Village area amongst The Bestival Inn, the Women's Institute Tea Tent, the Farmer's Market and the Sushi Yurt.

It's the perfect place to relax on a sunny afternoon, supping BestivAle, eating the WI's yummy cakes and watching the world going by while checking out some of the wonderful acts from the Isle of Wight, the mainland... & the rest of the world

WILL YOUNG TO PLAY

BESTIVAL

By Ross Findon - Tuesday, April 8, 2008

POP star Will Young has confirmed on his website he will be playing this year’s Bestival.

It is understood the former Pop Idol winner approached organisers to ask for the chance to play on the event’s tiny bandstand stage, which usually hosts up-and-coming acts.

He is expected to perform an acoustic set on the stage, which was last year flanked by the WI Tea Tent and the Farmers Market.

A spokesman for the event said they were delighted when Will approached them.

"He heard about what we were doing, loved it and asked if he could play," the spokesman said.

Organisers are expected to announce more acts this week, including another headline act tonight (Tuesday) at 7pm. Watch this space.

They have already announced Friday night will be headlined by indie stars My Bloody Valentine.

• The official Bestival website is at www.bestival.net/

Good on you Will - if you don't ask you don't get

Thanks munchkin & sunday.

Quite a different marketing approach this time round. :) He's a one off for sure. Just hope I never read the word Will & pupet in the same sentence again.

Thanks to Bumbling.

Isle of Wight County Press..

Will is to play a semi-acoustic set of originals and eclectic covers, according to a Bestival spokesman, who said they were delighted he was playing.

What a strange day I have had! Woke up to the Bestival news, phone calls here and there to try and find out where the tickets were sold (including the C Press who didn't know about him playing the concert). Then found out that the tickets were available but very expensive.

Then out all day to visit my son and family with my other grandson - watching the boys playing on the Wii!

Then back home to see that the gorgeous Gethin Jones is leaving Blue Peter in June :( as he has had loads of offers for different work and thinks it is the right time to leave. I hope the BBC realise what an asset he is. :)

Thanks everyone for all the bits of info. Loved all of it, but this bit caught my eye:-

Will Young originally shot to fame after winning Pop Idol 2002, but has since gone on to defy the critics by releasing three multi-platinum selling albums, being voted the UK's Favourite Artist twice and receiving critical acclaim for hit singles such as Leave Right Now and All Time Love. His bluesy, soulful voice, mature song writing and undeniably good looks have made him a national treasure and one of the UK's best-loved artists

Don't think we've had one sarcy comment re these festival appearances. :D :D

The comments just keep getting better. :yahoo:

Amazing comment on Radio 1 Entertainment News just now!

The reporter was saying how Amy Winehouse and Underworld were headlining the festival but then went on to say SURELY the HIGHLIGHT of the whole festival will be WILL YOUNG'S ACOUSTIC set!

Thanks to Nicola on Devoted.

We've said it before Will's way works. :D
