Posted May 26, 200619 yr Chili Peppers hold on Billboard chart Source Music Week It took Red Hot Chili Peppers more than 20 years to land their first US number one album, and they are not giving up their title without a fight, writes Alan Jones. The act's Stadium Arcadium album suffered a 65% decline in sales to 157,012 copies last week, but was still too strong for Cam'ron's Killa Season, which lands top debut honours at number two, on sales of 113,608. It is Cam'ron's second number two album, though he has yet to top the chart. There are also Top 20 debuts for Ashley Parker Angel, The Raconteurs, Christina Milian and Hoobastank. Angel, formerly a member of boy band O-Town, makes his solo debut at number five with Soundtrack To Your Life (72,447 sales). White Stripes leader Jack White's side project, The Raconteurs' album Broken Boy Soldiers, debuts at number seven on sales of 60,937 - a lower placing but with more sales than the album's number two UK debut on sales of 52,731 last week. Christina Milian's second album So Amazin' earns the R&B star a number 11 debut on sales of 50,202 - 10% down on the opening week of her first set It's About Time, which opened at number 14 in 2004. Hoobastank complete the tally of new entries in the top tier, debuting at number 12 with Every Man For Himself with 49,924 sales. Outside of those, the next highest debut is former Twiztid rapper Jamie Madrox's first solo set Phatso: The Album, which arrives at number 107 on sales of 8,467. James Blunt's Back To Bedlam falls 10-18 but remains the UK's highest ranked representative. Its sales were off a surprisingly sharp 43% last week to 40,579, taking its 33 week total to 1,752,795. Although new releases typically slip 40-60% on their second week in the shops, it is unusual for an established album to take such a one week hit when album sales overall are off just 12% week-on-week. Snow Patrol suffer a similar but more expected 43% reversal in their second week on the chart, with sales of 20,485 for Eyes Open, which dips 34-46. The album's first single, Chasing Cars, makes the week's highest singles chart debut, entering the Hot 100 at number 54, driven primarily by downloads, of which it sold 21,466 last week - good enough for a number 32 debut on the download chart. KT Tunstall's Eye To The Telescope album remains at number 40, although its sales are down 20% week-on-week to 23,882 as its total climbs to 324,605. Her Black Horse and The Cherry Tree single, which climbed to number 23 on the Hot 100 a fortnight ago and stuck there last week, is down to number 27. On a more positive note, after slipping out of the top half of the album Top 200 last week, Gorillaz' Demon Days rallies slightly, climbing 112-108, as it completes a full year on the chart. Sales of 8,445 in the week - down 15% - take its cumulative sales to 1,878,379. Finally, Chamillionaire's Sound Of Revenge album improves 31-27 as the Houston rapper's Ridin' single moves into pole position on the Hot 100, relegating Rihanna's S.O.S. to third slot.
