Posted April 8, 200817 yr Vandals turn Ringo Starr from mop top to no top at all Liverpool Daily Post.co.uk Apr 8 2008 http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverp...64375-20733308/ ONE of the life-size topiary figures of the Beatles at Liverpool South Parkway station has been vandalised only a few weeks after they were unveiled. Ringo Starr’s head was chopped off over the weekend by an unknown offender. Merseytravel said CCTV footage was being analysed by both themselves and British Transport Police in a bid to identify who was responsible. A Merseytravel spokesman said last night: “This is a huge disappointment for us. Public art is important and the topiary was put there to bring a bit of life and soul to the public transport network. “We are analysing the CCTV footage in conjunction with British Transport Police to try and identify who has done it.” Ringo's head was chopped off, but the rest of the Beatles were untouched. The 67-year- old outraged some Liverpool residents when, after opening the European Capital of Culture events, he said he missed nothing about the city. The topiary was one of a series of public art commissions for Merseyside’s transport network to celebrate Capital of Culture status. The latest incident comes only days after an attempted ram-raid at the front of the station in a failed bid to reach the cash machine inside. Am I the only one who finds this funny?
