I've avoided all female groups as that is possibly another thread/theme for the future..........

1. Siouxsie & The Banshees - Peek-a-boo - This track from 1988 remains my favourite track by Susan Ballion, Steve Severin and co.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PjUY8IXvnA

2. Yazoo - Nobody's Diary - Forget Annie & Dave, Alison Moyet & Vince Clarke were the greatest male/female synth-pop duo of the 1980s. This was their final single from 1983. 25 Years on, they are reforming with this track being remixed for release.

3. Eurythmics - Savage - Proof that Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart could make stunning music when they'd put their mind to it. This glacial title track of their most critically acclaimed album met with public apathy at the time. But what does the British public know about good music.

4. Blondie - Rapture - This was the first ever US#1 single to feature rapping. For me this just pips Atomic has Deborah Harry, Chris Stein & co's finest single.

5. Propaganda - Duel - My favourite ever ZTT track. This German group featured Claudia Brucken on vocals. A stunning synth-pop classic from 1985. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w_q58CFfAo

6. Pretenders - Back On The Chain Gang - Chrissie Hynde, Martin Chambers & co had a string of successful hit singles from 1979 to 1986 before becoming a defacto solo project for the former lover of Bob Geldof, Ray Davies & Jim Kerr. The video was directed by Don Letts.

7. 'Til Tuesday - Coming Up Close - Rarely in popular music has a singer been so critically acclaimed and admired by her peers (Elvis Costello, Difford & Tilbrook (Squeeze), Andy Partridge (XTC), Neil Finn (Crowded House), etc are all well known fans of Boston's finest Singer/songwriter), yet has met with apathy from the record buying public than Aimee Mann. She has been making great music for nearly 25 years. This song is yearning and regretful, hoping for a thing that had long vanished. A sad and beautiful song.

8. Berlin - You Don't Know - Terri Nunn, John Crawford & co will forever be associated with that awful Top Gun movie song, but they actually made some really good records. This brooding, slightly menacing, atmospheric ballad being one of them.

9. Fleetwood Mac - Gypsy - This mystical track from 1982 features Stevie Nicks on lead, but I could have easily gone for track like Little Lies, Everywhere or As Long As You Follow featuring Christie McVie on lead vocals. It will be interesting to hear Fleetwood Mac's next album rumoured to feature Sheryl Crow as their new member replacing Christie McVie.

10. Miami Sound Machine - Bad Boy - It is hard to believe that Gloria Estefan started off as just the singer in this band. As time went on it became obvious to the band & the record company that the lead singer was the bands greatest selling point along with her Lionel Richie/Phil Collins-esque ability at writing memorable (but slightly annoying) ballads.

11. Heart - Alone - Looking back now, it is hard to remember that Heart always were a five piece act fronted by female vocalists sisters Nancy & Ann Wilson who at one time each had romances with band members & brothers Roger & Mike Fisher. Still this is a great power ballad (Not a sentence I utter too often )

& saving the best to last........

12. Abba - The Day Before You Came - To this day I just don't understand how the best thing the band ever recorded only made UK#32. It actually was their last ever recording (as the likes of Under Attack were recorded before hand for an aborted album), but I guess this track with no chorus was so far ahead of its time in terms of structure & melody. In 2007 Bjorn Ullvaeus on a Radio2 documentary revealed that this is his favourite Abba track. Whilst on a 2007 VH1 Classic countdown Duran Duran named this track as the greatest lost track of the 1980s. And on April 1st 2008, when Radiohead were performing live on Radio 2's Radcliffe & Maconie show, they requested this track to be played surely tells you everything you need to know about its brilliantly bleak melancholy vocal performance by Agnetha Faltskog.

hey brian, you can add your own compilation to this thread you know :) (just in case theres any confusion anywhere .... these threads arnt open to the threat starter only)

Right-o here goes!

Eurythmics - Aqua I adore this brooding track from Annie and Dave that is from the Touch album.

Sugarcubes - Birthday I remember sitting in the bath listening to the chart show on the TV and this came on. Brilliance and just maybe still the best thing Bjork has ever done.

This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren Beautiful

Sundays - Can't Be Sure Another achingly fantastic song

Passions - In Love With A German Film Star The fifth song in a row to be in my all-time favourites list

Creatures - Right Now My absolute favourite Siouxsie moment. Went mad for this in 1982. Yet another of my all time favourites.

Edie Brickell - What I Am Desecrated by one of the Spice Girls (Was it Bunton?) Great little folkie type song

Primitives - Crash One half of a fabulous pair of singles that always go together in my mind

Transvision Vamp - I Want Your Love Here's the other

Blondie - Atomic And here's the inspiration

Bangles - Eternal Flame Another great song butchered in the last ten years by talentless trollops

Bananarama - Robert De Niro's Waiting - Fabulous pop song - no more no less

joan jett and the blackhearts - i love rock n roll gloriously ott, a drunken anthem! lol

eight wonder - im not scared great cover.

A tough one, but here goes....

1. Yazoo - Winter Kills

Returning next month for some very special concerts, this song was, IMO, Yazoo's defining moment, yet it was only a b-side - to their mega-hit 'Don't Go' - here's the divine Winer Kills, a live version, by Yazoo featuring Alison Moyet. Unbelievably awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu68p3QAyPA...feature=related

2. Blondie - Rapture

So far ahead of their time it's scary - everyone knows this, so needs no introduction - the brilliant Blondie with Rapture...

3. Cocteau Twins - Bluebeard

Their most commercial single - this was written about Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie's broken relationship, a relationship that would eventually break the band apart - Bluebeard.

4. ABBA - Summer Night City

One of their smaller hits, but IMO one of their finest - Summer Night City

5. Altered Images - Bring Me Closer

The time when Clare and the lads went all grown up on us, this was from their Bite album - fabulous single...

6. Bananarama - Love in the First Degree

Campest TV performance ever - the wonderful Bananarama at the BPI Awards :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O26FBMLaPQ

7. Shakespears Sister - Dirty Mind

And ex=Banana Siobhan shows she's not just a pretty face with Shakespears Sister - here's Dirty Mind.

8. The Creatures - Right Now

What can you say about this single? It's perfect......

9. Eurythmics - I Need a Man

Annie at her sassiest - looking like Lily Savage on speed and sounding like she really fricking means it - here's I Need a Man.

10. Throwing Muses - Not too soon

Primarily an 80s band, this was one of their final singles from the very early 90s - it's catchy as scabies but twice as pleasurable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bxCokNyBv4

11. Darling Buds - It's all up to you

Shame these never got the recognition they deserved -Newport's Darling Buds...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X17MHr5oFvI

12. Fuzzbox - Self

This is when the girls went uber-glam and left behind their fun punk roots - this was a corking single, great video and deserved to be a bigger hit. Just beating the fab Rules and Regulations by them to a place here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b3aHuPE7fA

Fuzzbox and Darling Buds nearly made it in my list with Rules and Regulations and Hit the Ground respectively.

You are so right about Right Now!

A lot of them have already been suggested, but I still like them I am not pinching them of you guys

1. Altered Images - Don't talk to me about love....sheer brilliance from little Clare

2. Blondie - Atomic....Their best track for me in the 80's, still sounds good today

3. Creatures - Right now.......Great track

4. Eighth Wonder - I'm not scared.....Guilty pleasure

5. Eurythmics - Love is a stranger....Annie at her best

6. Joan Jett - I love rock n roll....like this original version, not the poor warblings of a certain ms Spears

7. Fleetwood Mac - Little Lies.....Another guilty pleasure, my secret

8. Pretenders - I go to sleep...Chrissie Hynde vocals at her best

9. Siouxsie & Banshees - Dear Prudence......I quite liked her version

10. Texas - I don't want to be a lover...Sharleen does it for me

11. T'Pau - China in your hand....Carole Decker, mmmn she was a bit ok

12. Yazoo - Nobody's Diary... Excellent song with great vocals by Alison

13. Passions - I'm in love with a German film star...superb song

14. Mobiles - Drowning in Berlin....another song about Germany :D love it
