You know what caused it? Th Large Hadron Collider !!!!!!

But we are all still here, despite the 'End of the World' harbingers! The 'Nerds in Nightshirts' (pyjama clad scientists)

in Illinois partied, and physicists all over the world rejoiced.........then the LHC had to be closed down again a few

hours later when it began to overheat!

I take it the The Large Hadron Collider is the thing which is going to recreate the Big Bang in a laboratory.

I don't know much about it because whenever I've seen anything about it on the news, I've used its slot to channel hop.

Does anyone watch The Restaurant? I think that poor lady who wanted to open the Carribean cuisine restaurant must have been affected by the LHC too.

We may still all be doomed. They just tested out the protons racing through the tube yesterday, they didn't actually have the collision. It's the crash of the two that will create the effects of the Big Bang but may also cause a black hole, which some say we could be sucked into. However Steven Hawkings assures us that it is unlikely and even if a black hole was produced, they happen all the time in space but doesn't effect us.
Yes Baytree, I watch the restaurant. watched it last year. When they each get their separate restaurants, it will get interesting. To me it was one of the best programmes last year. Also love dragons den.

I think I'll stay ignorant......then I wont have to worry.

I did hear about it on 9th via Chris Evans show.

He has some really interesting things on his show.

I only ever listen when I'm in the car....never think of putting it on the pc to listen

Perhaps I should start :)

I've now booked some window suppliers to come give an estimate...2 tonight, 1 Monday, the other was an answer phone but a family firm.

I like family firms rather than big companies.

I didn't bother with everest..last time they priced us something the cost was terrrriffic.

Had the job done way under their price.

It started last night with nine couples turning up expecting to get keys to a restaurant but as usual there were only 8 keys and Raymond Blanc asked them all to create a signature dish for their restaurant concept. Their 'maitre d' was to present the dish to the judges and explain their concept.

They split into 3 groups, each one producing a starter, main course or dessert. They had 1 hour for cooking.

This lady, who was apparently an excellent cook, faced with the moment when she could have had a chance to get her own restaurant and ultimately have her own backed by Raymond Blanc, and armed with all the fantastic dishes from the Carribean decided to make a mango dessert, which couldn't actually be made from scratch within the time scale. She took a can of mango puree, whipped it up with two cartons of cream, squeezed in some lime juice and that was it apart from sticking it in the freezer. What was she thinking?

There were a couple of other dodgy looking couples but at least they cooked.

Not very creative...I think I could have managed that one.

...so what did she do for the next 50minutes....

Now you've caught my interest what happened.

If there were 8 keys instead of nine...but they were split into 3 groups....I'm confused

3 groups of 3 couples = 9 entrants (partners)

9 contestants minus the lady from the Carribean who was cut a la Pop Idol = 8 couples, each choosing a key, not knowing which key represented which restaurant.

They take possession of their restaurants in the next programme.

Sent for new passports on Saturday morning.....they have just arrived :o

Now that's quick!!

Nina, the 'Big Bang' simulation will take place after the LHC is officially unveiled on October 21st, when the first

high-energy collisions are planned to take place.

Maybe, like BT, we should all be putting our affairs in order, according to the doomsters.....though I doubt anyone

will notice any effect, apart from the scientists. And a few of them are questioning the use of such a vast amount

of money, which they consider could have been used more wisely.

But then discovery leads to progress (we hope).

Thanks baytree in telling me the result of the restaurant as I had to go out to pick up my grandson from cubs. It was pouring with rain. The carribean lady was axed I gather. not surprised she took a very lazy way out. Looking forward to seeing the others restaurant set ups.

Preston, I felt the 9 had been chosen in a formulaic way this year. Did you?

If they were I think that's sad and a reflection of what seems to happen on follow-ups to other successful reality shows.

I picked out the black couple, the "dreamers" ie would-be Michelin star couple, the gay couple -1st class air stewards, the food fusion mixed race couple, the older/younger, in this case, father/daughter combination, the fast food restaurant guy who'd been a head chef, now manager, the successful party caterers and the couple who were just giving it a go.

I've missed one - uncategorised!

Yes baytree I did think the same as you re the categorising. It seems to be a formula for lot of shows. Did you see it last year,I loved the twins, thought they might make a future in tv but heard nothing since. So farf he has let two couples off the hook, last night father and daughter and also the male pair with the gas leak.

I had to go chauffeuring and missed the end last night.

That really surprises me. I thought the father and daughter would go out. Their front of house was absolutely chaotic although they'd had 2 days to plan it because all their sutomers ordered in advance.

Hope you manage to see him Nina....and also enjoy the night.

We're waiting to hear all :D

We had a lovely day.

It stayed dry.

The morning was misty and cool but the afternoon warmed with the sun.

We didn't win but we would have given the money back anyway with it being a charity thingy.

We did get lost at one point looking for signs for town.....but they never came and when we ended up on the A1 we realised we had gone wrong...the intructions for out of town people we rubbish.

Luckily we met up with 4 locals and they took us some short cuts to catch up with everyone else.

I haven't watched any TV for a couple, of months so I've no idea what any of the programmes were about. Dad's funeral was yesterday. It went well and some of his friends came down from Kent. These things are always so sad. Our 13yr old sobbed through the whole thing. The kids chose to come and it'd have been wrong to stop them.

It's good to have you back, Meg. Is David OK?

I think you were right to let the kids come if they wanted. It probably helps to grieve with the assembled family. My paternal grandmother died when I was seven and I wasn't allowed to go to the funeral. I loved my Gran and I have always regretted that I was not allowed to be there. I'm sure my parents thought it was for my own good.
