Well, we had a half hearted thunderstorm yesterday but today it's lovely. Sun's been shining and there's not a bad heat in it. I was even moved to cut the hedge.

Now that I've got a date I can move all the pots etc. I'm hoping if I leave them a decent space on the "chipped" side garden to store material and debris maybe I'll be spared rooting out stones every time I want to cut the grassed area at the back of the building.

Glad you've finally got a date BT, hope it isn't too much upheaval.

I'm glad it's being done at last.

The company is a specialist roofing company of many years standing with a good reputation, so I'm hoping that they will do the work with due care for safety and with the minimum of disruption.

I think a lot depends on which individual workmen come to do the job, but you have researched the company

well, so there should be no problems. Butter up the men with cups of tea etc........usually works.

The only part of the job which I have some silly "what if" concerns about, is the removal of the chimneys. Has anyone ever had one removed?

Years ago when we had central heating installed, we had the fireplaces and chimney breasts taken out but we left the

chimneys on. After the TV cables were led down through them they were blocked to keep out the weather. Our TV

aerials are strapped to them.

I do hope Meg is coping......any news, Pam?

I have just tried phoning her daughter and no answer on the landline.

Last I heard was the hospital were trying to get a hospital bed and a care package for him to spend his last days at home.

Meg is spending much of 24hrs there and getting 3 hours sleep at the most.

I spoke briefly to Meg 2 days ago and she was very pleased that we had her in our thoughts.....she was very tired.

I'm not surprised. She must be exhausted - physically and emotionally

I hope they do take him back home. I think it would not only give him the solace of familiar surroundings, but also

give Meg greater peace of mind to be able to care for him at home, with professional help.

Meg now has her father-in-law home from last night.

She is able to rest on the settee in his room and catnap.

There are nurses coming in to wash and turn him.

He is comfortable but very ill.

Thinking of Meg

Why do we never know quite what to say. I'm pleased he was able to return home, Meg. At the moment you will be

feeling raw, but try to remember the good times, and console yourself with the knowledge that you and Dave gave

him so much of your time, care and love.......I know he must have appreciated all that you both did for him.

My sympathy to all the family at this sad time.

Just come on for first time today. So sorry to hear the news re Megs father in law. It was good that he was able to come home and they were able to spend time with him. Much sympathy to meg and her family at this sad time.

It's always sad to hear of a death. Meg's father-in-law was blessed with a long life with a loving family who ensured he had the best quality of life possible, when he was no longer able to do much himself. I don't think any of us could want much more.

I'm glad that Meg has been able to take a break to recharge her batteries. David and Meg must both have been totally exhausted. My sympathies go to all the family at this time.

I find the time between the death and the funeral diffivult because it always seem so unreal. It's like being completely numb on autopilot, doing the things which have to done and somehow managing to cope with a deluge of visitors, making arrangements for their accommodation etc. It's hard to fathom where the inner strength comes from but it always does.

This place seems to be in the huff with me. It wouldn't let me post that last post. I'd to copy it and then save it to a text file before shutting down and re-starting. Even then it wouldn't let me do it - bj had logged me out.

This time I'm staying on - so there!
