April 26, 200817 yr hey, it's the Sun. It'll take them a bit longer to get over the shock. They may even go into denial like the Mirror seemed to. I haven't forgottten about this. I'm going out tonight but I'll try tomorrow, Monday at the latest.
April 26, 200817 yr There are just so many praising Darius in reviews now, even when they hate the show. It is lovely seeing them more.
April 26, 200817 yr Author there was abit in the something for the weekend? section, it had give it a miss - although again the show is slated, Darius escapes with a good review The New london Theatre looks awful from the outside, but once inside it is great and the auditorium will impress as you go to your seat!! big queues for loos though, only four cubicles in the one I found -
April 26, 200817 yr You were lucky - most of the others only have 3. There are always women going back to their seats late after the interval as they've been queuing for 25mins.
April 27, 200817 yr I think there's definitely an element of jumping on the rolling bandwagon re reviews of the show. IMHO some of them haven't been to it and are writing based on other reviews they've read, some of which are from very different preview shows. It will be a pity if people shun a good show because they keep reading the same stuff.
April 27, 200817 yr Author thats the impression I am getting, plus reading beaudarius' report of the matinee show yesterday - I feel they were too eager to review the show an dnot give it a chance! she said its a different show than it was when she saw it earlier and that now she really enjoyed it - and I cannot equate any of the reviews to the show I saw. I woke up iwth a couple of songs in my head, and started crying again - even whe I was telling hubby whihc ones they were, I startted crying - so it made an impact. he has said we can go again if I can get good seats, he actually got up and was checking tickets online - and said it seemed to be selling realy well! oh and there was a huge billboard(the jill and Darius one) at beaconsfield train station, looked very impressive Edited April 27, 200817 yr by prettyinpink

The journos who actually attended that night and reviewed on that show, I have no quibble with. It's those who went to previews formed an opinion on that/those, I think were in the wrong.
April 27, 200817 yr the little clusters of newspaper people who were doing there bits in the interval REALLY annoyed me. They should watch the whole thing first. It's been designed to be seen as a whole. But, as I've said before, I felt they'd already decided what to say. At least most of them were aware that Darius was excellant. - even though they still got it wrong later within the same paper in one of them.
April 27, 200817 yr Author I still think they are too eager to out do other critics, I think they are jaded in outlook, they see so many productions, not because they feel they may enjoy it but because its their job and their reputation hangs on their reviews, looking for the negative, nitpicking every scene without watching as you would a film or read a book wanting to know what happens next, some even gave the idea they were already groaning at the whole idea of GWTW as it was and didnt even enjoy the book or film - I could of course pick out little bits and think well they could have done this or that, but in the scheme of things they were nothing, if I had been doing that like a critic I would have lost all connection with the story line, which I think is what they did!! the story as a flowing whole worked really well - and if they are already writing at the interval they arent involved with the story line..
April 27, 200817 yr OK I'm about to set up my scanner for the articles from the Sun and Your magazine. Will I post them in the GWTW thread or the Bits and pieces?
April 27, 200817 yr Someone pass me Aunt Pitty Pat's smelling salts, please. I'm going to faint! I'm going to faint! I really mean it.
April 27, 200817 yr Author why, - put the scans in the GWTW press, info thread.. I am afraid I have had it with these reviews, now I have seen it for myself and know they arepure pathetic drivvel
April 27, 200817 yr Billy Sloan(Sunday Mail) wrote some positive things about Darius in the Sunday Mail today. He worked very hard to counter them but they are there. I'm not sure if I've ever read anything positive from him re Darius other than that Steve Lillywhite was going to sign him. I remember he absolutely trashed the Dive In tour when most other reviews were good. The article is on .net. Edited April 27, 200817 yr by Baytree
April 27, 200817 yr It was a separate article too not just a bit in his usual column. Here's the scan. The picture's lovely. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v603/Maria194/BS274.jpg Billy omitted to say that Nicholas de Jongh also said "the far from dangerous or demanding Rhett of Danesh, whose beautiful, high vocals are his best feature." Benedict Nightingale also said "As for Danesh, he has the sauntering suavity that Gable brought to the role of Rhett, but not enough dash and danger. " Michael Billington also said "Darius Danesh also endows the morally dubious Rhett Butler with a graceful virility and residual guilt" Now why would he need to leave 3 out of 4 positive comments about Darius out? Edited April 27, 200817 yr by Baytree
April 28, 200817 yr He must've phoned up wanting to know if Darius was going to quit because the show didn't get good reviews. If he knew anything at all about Darius, he wouldn't have needed to make that call, the answer would be obvious. Darius always answers his critics by working harder.
