Posted April 16, 200817 yr Everywhere you turn, Mariah Carey’s in your grill. She’s on Oprah, two American Idols, in your e-mail, on your computer. Mariah Carey’s new Island/IDJ album E=MC2, looks like it will sell over 500k, based on one-day sales reports, though last night’s Idol appearance could send it even higher. Wonderers are wondering if 600k is within reach. Needless to say, it will be #1 next week by a wide margin. Other chart newcomers include Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum (35-40k), Vagrant/Fontana thrash rockers Thrice (25-30k), Astralwerks’ The Kooks (15-20k, with a substantial iTunes number), Spinefarm/Fontana’s Children of Bodom (15-20k) and Virgin’s Tristan Prettyman (15k, with a large iTunes marketshare thanks to “Single of the Week” status). The market was down 8% vs. last week, down 9% vs. same week last year and now down 12% year-to-date. You may return to dissing rednecks with Obama. _____________ WOW! well done Mariah!!
April 16, 200817 yr That's amazing, it makes Leona's sales look so disappointing in comparison. :( I have to remember though, Mariah is "bigger than Elvis" in the USA now. :P
April 16, 200817 yr But well done on the sales though, i bought the album 2day but need to play it. Edited April 17, 200817 yr by Madonna's Guy!
April 17, 200817 yr I hope Mariah doesn't die the same way Elvis did! :( But well done on the sales though, i bought the album 2day but need to play it. horrible comment <_<
April 17, 200817 yr I say she could hit 650k! Go Mariah! Touch My Body has finally grown on me after 2 months
April 17, 200817 yr Is Mariah the first female artist to score high sales in America or has Mary J done higher? I'm sure i read somewhere that her last album Breakthrough did something close to a million in its debut week!! :)

I'm sure i read somewhere that her last album Breakthrough did something close to a million in its debut week!! :) Mary J. Blige did 830k but that was Christmas week (or the week before) so that was expected. Sales that high for this time of year are once in a blue moon, considering Mimi was released near enough the exact same date 3 years ago and that only sold 410k in it's first week and was Mariah's highest first week sales of an album ever, another record broken. :D

First album after all her drama.
April 17, 200817 yr I think TEOM was also her getting back into her groove as well. First album after all her drama. Yeaaah this is true. Although Mimi was touted as "THE COMEBACK" which everyone was buzzing about. I don't expect E=MC² to sell anywhere near the 5.9m that Mimi did, but a good 3m isn't too much to ask I don't think. Not considering all of the huge potential singles she could have from this album...
April 17, 200817 yr Like I said in the other thread, I didn't think the sales would be that big. But that'sawesome :) Didn't Mary sell 727,000 in her first week?
April 17, 200817 yr Touch My Body has finally grown on me after 2 months  Same here. Congrats to Mariah though! Those sales numbers are pretty impressive. ^_^
April 18, 200817 yr Migrate, Touch my Body, OCC and the track after that are just about the only ones i like on her album. Maybe the others will grow on me? And why was my poor ole sister's copy so expensive? She paid £14.99 at Zavvi whereas i got it for £9.77 at Asda :P
