I'll nominate two bands.

1. Foo Fighters.

For me anything Dave Grohl touches turns to gold. I know the Foos have not received great reviews for their latest efforts but you really can't fault their inimitable style.

Best Single: Everlong? Monkey Wrench? You decide.

Best Album: The Colour And The Shape

2. Pearl Jam

Apart from the fact Eddie Vedder is sex on legs, his voice just rumbles through you and draws you in. Proper rock how it should be done.

Best Single: Alive

Best Album: Ten

Foo Fighers coculd be good but their songs go on way to long and the Music channels now insist on playing their same few videos non stop.

But if you consider their older stuff that really is the benchmark for their success.

The fact that the music channels/radio shows go overkill on certain songs/bands is not their fault, and isn't really a factor for not voting for them. Take Valerie for example. I really like The Zutons, but once there was overkill on the Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse version, (who I also love), it now sends shivers down my spine when it comes on.

You could argue it's the bands thought for selling out but i think Foo fighters have always been pretty popular i suppose, i think Big me is their best song/video.
nah there best song is 'This is a Call' off there best album, which is there best album, way before they sold out :)

Best Single:I Still haven't Found what i'm looking for

Why would you have pissed anyone off? Because of your nominations?
Becuase Evanescence suck :heehee: [and also in my opinon you picked the only really rubbish Green Day stuff, but that is just my opinon]

Right gotta have this lot:

The Rolling Stones

Best song: Sympathy for the Devil

Best album: Exile on Main Street

Think that brings me up to 8 nominations now!

My first nomination

TOOL

A truly amazing Contemporary Metal band who continually push back the boundaries of the Hard Rock/Metal genre with experimentation, astonishing musicianship and a clearly defined ethos and ideology within their albums... They unify musical experimentation with visual arts and messages of personal evolution within their releases... What I love about them is that they always take their time over an album, if it takes 5 or 6 years, that's what it takes.... A Tool album is always worth the wait, and always deeply complex and involving...

Members - Maynard James Keenan (Vocals), Danny Carey (Drums'Percussion), Justin Chancellor (Bass), Adam Jones (Lead/Rhythm Guitars)

Fave Single - "Stinkfist"

Fave Album - "Aenima"

My second nomination

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS

"Genius", "Eccentric", "Egotistical", "Obsessive", "Tyrant", "a-hole"All these words have been used to describe Pumpkins founder/frontman/chief songwriter Billy Corgan.. It's hard to categorise exactly what sort of band they were - too 'Metal' to be really considered Indie, too 'polished' to be considered Grunge, too fey to be considered 'Metal'... In truth, they combined elements of all, and they were probably one of the first bands to be pigeon-holed into the "Alternative Rock" category, mainly because MTV needed to put them into a slot someplace, and that term kinda fit as well as any... THe Pumpkins started off with the rather amazing "Gish" album (probably their most 'Indie' album), rather unassuming, geeky kids they seemed as well.. Oh, how looks deceived.... The massive ego within Corgan was just bursting to get out and it almost destroyed the band before "Siamese Dream" came out; Corgan famously saying that if the album failed that he would quit.. The album sold millions and catapulted them into the major leagues... The best bands always seem to exist on tension, well, the Pumkins sure had a lot of that....

Members - Billy Corgan (Vocals/Guitar), D'arcy Wretsky (Bass), James Iha (Guitar), Jimmy Chamberlain (Drums). D'arcy would leave the band after the Pumkins fourth album to be replaced by Melissa Auf Der Maur...

Fave Single - Today or Rhinocerous

Fave Album - Siamese Dream

Have we had this lot yet?

Joy Division

Best Single - Love Will Tear Us Apart (best single by anyone ever)

Best Album - Unknown Pleasures

Big love for Tool and Stinkfist!

Great call.

Why don't you go and listen to them then oh arbiter of good taste!

Yes The Doors, The Stones, The Byrds, The Beatles, Love, MC5, The Stooges, Can, Oasis, U2, Soundgarden, The Animals, Sweet, T. Rex and a load of others should be included. Why don't you nominate them then? BTW Bowie is a singer not a band!

well except if you nominate Tin Machine  - tho at this time i was probs thinking along the lines of David Bowie - Mick Ronson - Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars....rock act yeah - but you know how pedantic people are - thats why i havent nominated any of those others.

and how many can you nominate?

Becuase Evanescence suck :heehee: [and also in my opinon you picked the only really rubbish Green Day stuff, but that is just my opinon]

Yeah if Green Day are in it which i don't even think they should Dookie should be the nominated album and longview the nominated song. Not the album where they sold out to get a bunch of 12 year fans who probably weren't even aware of their 8 previous albums.

I take it you're talking about "American Idiot" there.... TBH, I really dont know how you can consider that a "sell out" album... I never, ever took GD seriously until I heard that album tbh... I think the material on Green Day is vastly more sophisticated and grown-up than "Dookie".... I really dont get how "Jesus of Suburbia" can be considered a 'sell-out', an 8-minute single with three different interlinked 'songs'...? Hardly the stuff of typical MTV/FM Rock 'heavy rotation'..... Okay, "When September Ends" kind of sucks.....

I cant stand When september ends - its bored me totally when it was like all over the hits when it was out...

i cant comment on Dookie (ive got a brother who has got it but obv im not gonna go round to his to get it or bother getting it from iTunes)

however think its to do with that anti-mainstream indie mentality again - but then again i remember reading a comment on the clash that was made by another of first wave punk bands on going on totp and it was 'well obv we wanna go on totp because we want people to hear our message'
