May 23, 200817 yr What people are saying is that teachers deserve the pay rise because they're doing a job which they spend as much time away from their place of work working on as they do there. Like footballers don't get paid to play for an hour and a half each week, they also train 5 days a week but they're KNOWN for their weekly game, teaching has a lot of behind-the-scenes work which people don't take any notice of, and so deserve the money they're paid. The thread has developed from simply 'should teachers have more money' to a discussion about teachers as a whole :) I agree they are intitled to the money they work for, but I just think the issue is being clouded. Clearly it is all about money, therefore I don't get why people are confusing the argument about the profession being "dangerous". If they actually thought their lives was in danger surely they'd strike over that issue than about money!?
May 24, 200817 yr Do you know someone in every profession? :P Just to clarify I haven't had time to read the whole thread, so I will apologise to you Scott if I have missed this point. On the first page it says about the teachers strike is for money, yet you are saying about how dangerous the job has become. Now, is this the actual reason for the strike or even part of it or is it just for the pay rise? This all started basically because of Chris spouting a load of bollocks about how teachers dont deserve a pay rise because, as he asserted, teachers have a "cushy, safe" job... I merely pointed out that teaching is anything but cushy or safe in this day and age.... He's talking about some sort of "Tom Brown's Schooldays" or Hogwarts bollocks where all the kids say "Please Miss"! or "Please Sir" and are all well-behaved little darlings.. This is NOT the experience at all for the majority of teachers.... I think that pay has to reflect potential risk factors.... The depressing reality now is that there are potential risk factors involved in being a teacher these days, kids ARE carrying knives to school. kids ARE behaving violently towards their teachers - sad but true....
