I suppose it would be easier and better to just use qualification if there were to be a limit. I just think that with new countries entering all the time and the contest keeping on getting bigger it could easily be the case that it's not long before we're looking at in excess of 60 entries to a contest. I do think it can reach the stage where there would be too many entries.

That's why confirmation wouldn't open so early. If there's 4 weeks before contests opening confirmation 10 days or so before it's due to begin still gives enough time. There doesn't have to be something happening all of the time between contests!

this could work I suppose but I still don't think a cap on entries would be that wise...we could quite feasibly split all of the countries up, even if one day got to 100 countries, to ensure that we all only had to listen to about 20-25 songs maximum in the semi finals and the finals...

of course, the host would have to find time to listen to 100 songs which would be interesting  or just vote in one of the semis

the only reason I opened confirmation so early this time is to give people the option to confirm if they wish to do so...it will still close at the same time

splitting them into multiple semi-finals would eradicate the problem of each person having to listen to 60+ songs, the only problem would be that you might not fall into the semi with the people who like your song etc...

I suppose more semi's is the only possible way of making it workable. But the more semi's you have the less chance there is of the 25-27 songs in the final being anything like the most popular 25 songs in the contest. Also, should it get to the stage where significantly more people would miss out on the final than qualify for it? Although I guess with an entry limit that would still be the case, just in a different way...

It's an inevitable situation. We have to choose the least of the two evils. :drama: I'd think it'd better if we had 3 semis. We already have 2. And no one (almost) complains about being in a wrong SF. It's all the luck's work now.

100+ songs sounds intriguing :kink: I wonder if we still don't run out of songs by the time of BJSC-M? :heehee:

of course it's nice to end up in the semi with the people who have expressed that they like your song, but it's not the end of the world if you don't...if the song's strong enough it *should* qualify regardless, but then we could have an extreme situation of a cheesy pop loving country (e.g. FSR Farahtyn) ending up in the same semi as the 'indie crowd' which would almost certainly scupper their chances of qualification...still with 17-20 countries in each semi, there would be sure to be some cheesy pop fans in there somewhere

It's still extremely unlikely for that to happen. Plus most of BJSC actually ARE cheesy pop fans :kink: And maximum to 10 people are indie 'crowd'. TBH by my votes I started noticing that i have moved into it. :o But cheesy pop is really good sometimes :heehee:

I don't think 10 auto-qualifiers is a good idea actually. 3 or at least 5 suit much more.

That's what I'm saying, from I-VI if you finished in the top 10 in the previous contest, you had a guaranteed place in the next final. Then for VII, instead of having 1 big semi-final we decided to only let one or two countries pre-qualify and to have two decent sized semis. Now the idea of 10 countries getting a free pass to the final seems obsurd.

I think 3 semis is the only way to go about it really. The contest seems to be getting too big for it's own good, bring back the days of one semi and about 35 entrants.

I would never let 10 countries auto qualify in this day era of the BJSC :heehee: 3 maximum

We could cap off the number of currently playing countries...isn't that what ESC Today does? Like make a waiting list or something? Nah I don't like that much tbh.

Tbh I don't quite mind the idea of large semis...I tend to know what I like and don't like very quickly. :P But I wouldn't be opposed to three semis (though I wouldn't be particularly happy :/ a lot of alternative songs would probably not get as many votes as the select few countries that do vote for them would be split). Best song would win in the end though.

Quotosibb New Hosts

It was announced a few days ago that FSR Rontvia could not host the fifteenth edition of the BJSC due to funding issues, which led to a snap decision that it would now be hosted in Quotosibb. It was expected to be hosted in the capital, Siobah, but due to the unplanned nature of this situation the only arena in Siobah, the Siobal Hall, has been booked for the whole week that the contest final should take place on. It happened to be the week the "Official Buzzjack Song Contes Tour", featuring the likes of September, Beverley Knight, Velvet, Uh Huh Her and the Veronicas, was due to stop off in Quotosibb. Therefore the next Buzzjack Song Contest will take place in Bhux, the southern area of Quotosibb, which is home to Quotosibb's biggest arena and should easily cope with the size of the contest.

With many countries confirmed, Quotosibb is one of the few left to make a decision this month. It was all looking clear for Ciara & Justin Timberlake or Brandy this month until it was announced that Quotosibb would have a free pass to the final which has been a signal to send something more risky or something Quotosibb want to send, but have less confidence in. Acts rumoured to be under consideration are Tegan & Sara, Janelle Monáe, Solange, Ashanti and Laura Marling.

What the Fhux do we send to Bhux?

Being host is meant to be a relief for picking your entry, it can be as rubbish or risky as you wish as it gets a free pass to the final. So why is Quotosibb finding it so difficult this month? There are so many songs in contention for being picked that it's almost worth cracking out another NF.

One of the potential entries is a duo sisters who happen to be lesbians, due to the recent success of female duos (Uh Huh Her 1st in BJSC XIV and the Veronicas with four top 7 finishes) it seems like it could fly into the top 10 or be seen as an entry trying to ride off the back of last month's success stories. Quotosibb aren't so confident about sending this enty to a normal contest in fear that it's a bit too laid ack to click with the voters.

Another likely entry is a paranoid female duo, missing their boots. The problem with this is that it was considered for BJSC XIII but it either got a muted response or a love/hate one. This means it could be perfect to send with a free pass to the final but we don't want to 'do an Estelle' (now known as 'a N.A.S.A.') but perhaps it wont.

Other potential entries are a six minute piece that is more experimental than anything her big sister would ever record, a Janelle track that is more Amerie than futuristic and a song recently featured in Naomi's episode of Skins.

Quotosibb has until Saturday to decide what they are going with but the question is, will this be long enough?

I liked it better than 'Headhunted', it's listenable to me, but that's still not saying much.

'Jungle Drum' was sort of singled out in my votes. The 7 songs above it were all potential for the top 3 points, yet I liked it much more than the songs that got my 1 and 2 points. It was a very comfortable 3. In another contest, like XII, I would have given it at least 7 points. I found this final to be so strong, I felt bad for the songs that got 1-5, it didn't feel high enough.

Quotosibb on their last resorts?

After finishing in a 'disappointing' 19th on 75 points last month, Quotosibb are said to be out of ideas and 'scraping the barrel' for XVIII. Head of song selection has said "We're feeling our luck is about to run out. We're already considering entries we rejected in the past for this next contest, which perhaps isn't the way to turn this around."

Apparently Quotosibb have approached Brandy and Kanye West to perform their 2005 collaboration or Janelle Monáe to perform a track from "The Audition" for now. Though it's said these are probably last resorts and something else will be put forward this month.
