August 3, 200915 yr Brandy  Suprised though to see you enter it, didnt think you'd sink to my level of lazy entries
August 3, 200915 yr Author for me, Long Distance is appalling, I can't bear it, I really dislike her voice and it really shows on simple piano ballads like that...I prefer her more upbeat songs if anything where her voice is hopefully disguised by vocoders  I was really unhappy to see Long Distance on a compilation album I imported from Sweden actually, they put it next to Jade Ewen's It's My Time so I don't have time to flick past in in time after listening to Jade :heehee: interesting you say that you remember 1999-2001, so you must have recalled her cover of Another Day In Paradise, I'm sure it went top 5 in the UK :o I'm a slight loon for Brandy right now, I can't see how people could dislike that voice! :o I don't know how to describe what it is about it, it's just so gorgeous and warm. I do much prefer her upbeat songs though, but "Long Distance" is one of my favourite ballads in quite some time. :o Quite surprised I didn't give it 12... Hmm, I think it was early 2001 that I stopped listening to the charts so I may have just missed it. Love it now though. Brandy  Suprised though to see you enter it, didnt think you'd sink to my level of lazy entries  I always said it was my last resort entry and I guess it's finally came to that. Need to find something better next month. (though this is probably one of my fave entries)
August 3, 200915 yr Why? I don't see it as more cheap or uninspired an entry than say Silly Boy or Gold Digger, both bound to chart well. It's fabulous.
August 3, 200915 yr Because he's going to finish above people who've made the effort to discover new music that other voters won't have heard. It's incredibly lazy...
August 3, 200915 yr If the new discoveries deserve to do better than Afrodisiac, then they probably will? There are hardly any songs in this contest I haven't at least heard of before, so they're all on even playing level with Afrodisiac for me. I don't see how this one is particularly uninspired or lazy. If Afrodisiac is suddenly lazy, then pretty much 60% of this contest is by your standards...
August 3, 200915 yr Not really :s Even the newer entries such as Mini Viva or Beverley Knight won't have been heard by any more than half of the voters in the competition. Afrodisiac is a renowned modern classic which nearly everybody knows and loves...
August 3, 200915 yr I dunno the UK that well, but no one in the US knows Afrodisiac LOL. Didn't it not even go top 10 in the UK? Hardly a modern classic. I dunno, maybe just because I keep up with so much music, but I see Afrodisiac on the same level as a new release that's been hyped up by Popjustice/Buzzjack on equal footing.
August 3, 200915 yr I don't know QUITE why, and it's probably another Bulletproof 'I love it so much that I'm blinded to its faults' moment on my part, but I honestly don't see Afrodisiac as being on the same level as, say, Bring Me To Life or Trick Me, even though everyone adores it. God knows why I don't though, thinking about it...
It's one of those songs that absolutely everybody on the internet regards as a classic. Even the friends I've been with when it's been playing know and love it. I don't know how it flopped but it's a lot better-loved as a song that #14 would suggest.
August 4, 200915 yr it was #11, but with 7 new entries in the top10 that week so it was tough for her. I think it was Ronan who blocked her at #10, stupid jerk, remember being so pissed off.
August 4, 200915 yr Well, it's probably much more well regarded in the UK then. Because absolutely none of my friends know it. And as for the internet, Buzzjack is the only site I've seen that has anyone who really adores it. I know that the video on Youtube of it was just uploaded last week, but I vividly remember the ones before that having not even a million views. So I wouldn't even say it's considered a classic by internet standards. I consider it way less cheap/uninspired than Trick Me and Bring Me To Life. And even Trick Me I wouldn't consider that uninspired. Any R&B in the BJSC really can't be that cheap, really... A future top 10 worldwide hit is just the same as a past #11 in my opinion, even if it is a new artist. Everyone still knows about it and it has the advantage of tons of hype. People would know about it without BJSC easily. And I include my own entries (I Kissed a Girl, Dolla) in this statement, because I don't mind people entering them whatsoever. But I think if you're going to call one song uninspired, at least be fair about it. I don't get why Afrodisiac is being singled out above all songs. We can agree to disagree. :P
August 4, 200915 yr Author I've already had this little disagreement on MSN with Jark, but I pretty much agree with everything Ben said. ^_^ Jark seems to get more hung up on 'cheap' entries if they've already been released, and that's fine. Personally I don't see how this is any more uninspired than me sending September or David Guetta, both of which went (in some form) UK #1/top 15 a couple of weeks after I sent them. It's the same for Jade Ewen, Beverley Knight, Dolly Rockers etc. this month. At least with an old hit, there's a chance that some people missed it (it spent FOUR WEEKS in the top 40) or they'll rediscover their love for it through this contest. I understand that people wont have heard some of the 'release schedule' entries yet, but anyone that keeps an eye on Popjustice, topics in the Pop forum should have heard a few of these at least. I'd never send something that I considered to be a well known classic or that spent ages in the chart. I've already said that I hardly knew who Brandy was until "Right Here (Departed)" leaked and I like a bit of female R&B. I didn't know "Afrodisiac" until I heard her GH, it's not exactly "The Boy Is Mine" (though that's from 1998, I'm not sure if something that old can be considered cheap in a 'new music' contest) or "Crazy In Love". (which me sending this was compared to sending earlier) I don't know QUITE why, and it's probably another Bulletproof 'I love it so much that I'm blinded to its faults' moment on my part, but I honestly don't see Afrodisiac as being on the same level as, say, Bring Me To Life or Trick Me, even though everyone adores it. God knows why I don't though, thinking about it... Don't you start turning on it! :( You were the one who sorta PM-convinced me to send it, despite my reservations about how a certain somebody would and has reacted. :heehee:
August 4, 200915 yr Author Oh LOL no don't worry :heehee: I adore it far too much to turn  Good! ^_^ :snif: Jewel is so screwed :snif: :P How come? :o I don't think Brandy or Jewel are similar.

I'd never vote for any from 21-27 and 17-20 would only be considered for points in the weakest of contests. I could have probably voted for the top 16 though.
