I always think of the line "Starry eyed girl you rock my world" I don't recall from which band (Ultrabeat?) when i see the title "Starry Eyed" as an Ellie's song. :(

Luckily, I don't know that song (Ultrabeat are rubbish), so I don't have that problem. Ellie's is bound to be better.

'Starry Eyed' is amazing, btw!! <3

Yes, along with "Under The Sheets", he only really amazing song so far. But "Wish I Stayed" is the only one I've heard that I'm not a great fan of I think.

Yep, the Jakwob remix gives it more of a punch, but not in a way that'd make it a hit. I'm hoping the media coverage doesn't backfire, as it often does.

Oh right! Yeah, I don't like her personality and I don't think much of her music. "Bulletproof" was an exception of brilliance, while bits of the album were tolerable.

will have to youtube it to see ^_^

I thought her album was good, I love all of the singles too but I definitely see her being a one album wonder a la Mika

oh dear :( Ultrabeat have got so tragic recently, I can't forgive their cover of Use Somebody

funnily enough, Starry Eyed Girl is their least awful song of recent times

Wish I Stayed was free on iTunes a couple of weeks back - I'm still not a huge fan of it sadly :(

I'm a slave to Popjustice, although arguably not as much as Tyron is, who literally regurgitates things that he's read on there in his own words on here :heehee:

I'd like to see Marina live, much moreso than I would the other hyped for 2010 artists - I never saw Boots or Florence last year but I did see La Roux live - it was a bizarre experience, she was incredibly disconnected from the audience

I know what you mean, I saw her supporting Lily Allen, she didn't get the crowd going at all and she just stood on the stage drinking beer :kink:.

Haha, good!

Yeah, I saw, I think it's just a bit bland. The verses are a bit forgettable, but the chorus is nice. It was so forgettable that, when I saw her live, I thought she was singing it, but it was "Guns And Horses"! (which is a much better song) I didn't do much Ellie research before seeing her.

Wish I Stayed is one of my favourites! Although I actually love all of her songs !
Oh yeah, definitely and they seem obsessed with pretty much anything Xenomania do for female artists, his taste seems a bit narrow. like mine

Yeah, most of her material is a grower, but I think "Starry Eyed" is one of her best. It doesn't exactly sound like a major hit though, none of her stuff does. Hopefully the version that's been around for ages is different to the single version, it needs an extra something. It'll probably be better in HQ as it sounded better live.

Oh dear, I thought she was supposed to be better live than her Live Lounge appearance. Oh yeah, I think I remember you saying about that at the time.

The single version that I heard played on Radio 1's Evening Session this week of "Starry Eyed" that keeps disappearing on youtube the minute someone tries to upload it sounded much better and commercial to my ears than the older version available on the internet.

PS. What are the dates in February that you are likely to be hosting BJSC XXIV.

in that case I can barely contain my excitement to see who gets to reserve and win with Ellie Goulding in XXIV then :drama:

Oh, that's good to hear! I thought it stood out more when I heard it live, but put it down to the energy in there. It would have been silly not to adjust it, being the equivalent of Little Boots releasing "Meddle" or "Stuck On Repeat" as her lead single last year. (actually, those would have still been better choices. :()

Not sure, wasn't there a spin off around now last year? Maybe the Xmas spin-off took it's place. Haha, I kid. I don't think it's nearly as sewn up as everyone's making it out to be.

Ooh, maybe I'll become the second country to win twice in a row. :D THAT WAS A JOKE

So it's, like, time for our 19th entry and I'm auto-qualifying. I'm gonna try sending something a bit less safe/predictable.

The current front runners are:

Wolf Gang - The King And All Of His Men

This was almost the entry you got last month, but hardly anyone actually listened to it, so you got Marina and here he is again. If think this is the sort of male entry that'd do well in the BJSC. It sort of sounds like former entries and his voice is like a cross between a few Buzzjack males, so it might be a good entry? Or maybe a tired formula?

Cherri V ft. Wiley - Skool Daze

My current personal chart #1. A song from niece of Mica Paris, former band mate of Jade Ewen, friend of Jamelia and Keisha Buchanan - Cherri V. (and Wiley) Of course, I love it. It's hard for me not to like a bit of electropop by a black female. I'm just not sure if Wiley is too dominant on this and not as easy to ignore as, say, Chipmunk on "Number One Enemy". Plus it's all "I loved you back in the school days" - might not be mature enough for BJSC.

Sky Ferreira - Animal

Speaking of mature, a very mature cover of the Miike Snow song by a young girl. I know this'd bomb out of the semis, it has 'dull' potential, but I think she sounds beautiful on it.

So those are my current options, all songs I've backed out of sending in recent times, but songs I love nonetheless. Any ideas on what I should pick?

all three of these are pretty great actually after the first listen :o

I'd probably say go with Cherri V seeing as it's #1 in your chart - decent stuff actually :D the other two are good too though - Animal is lovely not boring

Wolf Gang – The King And All Of His Men 70/100 Nice song. Most likely not enough for points from me, though. (copied from last time :P)

Cherri V feat. Wiley – Skool Daze 40/100 Pretty boring.

Sky Ferreira – Animal 95/100

It would be nice if you could comment on my potential entries here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=2929353 ;)

Ooh, I'm glad you somewhat like all of them, that has to be a good thing coming from you.

Yeah, it's probably by favourite by a bit of this lot, I just dislike sending things like this because anything with a rapper automatically puts off a good percentage of voters. It's a bit of a BJSC no-go area.

Agreed that "Animal" is lovely, I just can't think of the last time something so stripped back got more than about 20 points in it's semi final! But I do rather love her voice on this, understated but powerful. I suppose being a cover of a pretty indie friendly song could help.

Wolf Gang seems like my entry with most potential. I just don't know if he's a bit "Mika joins the Sound Of Arrows", which is a bit of a tried and tested formula already.

I do want to send one of these though. But now I'm tempted to send Mariah and Nicki Minaj after Jack ditched her. (nooooooo Aaron, stay away!)

Ooh, good to see you loving Sky Ferreira! Shame it's not one of the others as I'm feeling this is 3rd place out of the three. But maybe I'll change my mind as you don't like the others much.

I've sent quite a few entries with rappers in before (and my one this month too!) - I do like a good bit of rap every now and then - if done well it really can add to a song, but there's a perception here with some people that it ruins songs :(

Yeah, I do think it works in this one. It's basically a duet, with Wiley being the one Cherri is singing about, as he gets two verses.

But yeah, some people will instantly give up on a song if they see a rapper is involved. Heck, sometimes people are quick to put down anything R&B/urban straight away. It's definitely a tough area to get to go down well in the BJSC, songs like "Dollhouse" and "She Ain't Got..." are about as urban as BJSC gets and those were Pop songs by black females. :(

But maybe I'll change my mind as you don't like the others much.

Don't change just because I prefer it. I don't exactly reflect the general BJSC taste too well.
