The Sunday Times Rich List has shown that the top rich people in the UK have had their fortunes go up by 15% on average.

This comes today as Roman Abramovich, third on the list, wishes to build a £150 million home in Knightsbridge.

So, whilst the majority of the rich get richer and pay next to no taxes, if any, the poor in this country have to suffer with the loss of the 10% rate, ever increasing inflation making food expensive, gas & electricity going up by 20%+ per year, petrol prices are going up almost weekly, first time buyers cannot get on the property ladder and may be forced to rent for a long time and our pensions are becoming worthless. The poor/rich divide in this country is becoming bigger and bigger yet all the Government does is punish the poor more.

There was me thinking we had a Labour Government, you could be mistaken for thinking the Conservatives were still in power.

You've definately got a point there, Brian. Some of the things this Government are doing are reminiscent of Tory policies of the past.

But those rich people that are in the Top 1000 or whatever bar a few that inherited money are by and large people who started companies from nothing and employ between them hundreds of thousands if not millions of Britons so I don't think their wealth should used to spit venom at them when they have achieved what they have achieved

The tax system is f***ed by all means bash the tax system but its unfair to bash those that have made lots of money

clares fuming... she will be £10 a month worse off... thats £120 a year, money that she NEEDS on her low wage.

i agree there will be a divide based on money. the rate the cost of living is rising and fuel... we are heading full speed ahead towards a 'us and them' situation where there is a huge poor underclass who cant afford to drive, smoke, drink, and live comfortably.

True ... and then again there's the Dyson fella - who moved all of his work to Malaysia or something like that to increase profits. He did give all his now unemployed workers a Dyson bagless cleaner as part of their redundancy package though ... so the bloke's all heart!

To reply to Craig... Okay, making something of yourself is one thing... But alllowing money to turn you into an absolute fukkin' maggot is another..... I really detest those "O'im considerrrrabllayyyyyy reeecherrr than yaoowwwww" types... I'd gladly shoot them all....

Exactly... I find the whole ending of the 10p tax rate to be utterly detestable... "Labour" party??? Yeah, right..... Robing Hood?? Robbin' B'astards more like..... <_< If you want to fund a tax cut to get it down from 22p to 20p, you make the richer pay more, not the poorer.....

I wouldn't mind the fact that the richer are getting richer, except that those companies making a billion pounds a month do nothing to help social development, do not pass the success onto their customers, they tell us things are more expensive, but their profits sore faster, and if you think about it, if they were truly keeping their prices as low as they could they would be making the same percentage of profit as last year and not more.

It is those that are less well off that always suffer most, it's about time someone did something, too much in this world is about the pursuit of money and not enough about fairness
