February 24, 200817 yr I was sitting right at the edge of my seat first night. I was trying to enjoy the show but I don't think I took much in until "Is everybody here?" I was impatient to see him - the "We want Billy" seemed to take ages. I relaxed almost immediately. It was clear he was in his element and enjoying it. Although I'd to wait for him in G&D too, I wasn't worried until it got close to the Havana scene. I could feel myself getting anxious for him but he absolutely astounded me. He moves wonderfully for a very big guy, but what got me was that I believed he was actually falling in love. His two years of studying obviously payed off both there and with the audition for GWTW :)
February 24, 200817 yr Absolutely. For once I agreed whole heartedly with a critic - "The on stage love affair is totally believable and the disintegration from the indifferent aloof gambler to the enraptured lover was enchanting.
February 24, 200817 yr Author And I think we saw the way Darius was going to go during that show. I just wished more people had the chance to see it. His Mum and Dad were bags of nerves on that first night in 'Chicago' she said that she didn't remember to breathe until half way through the first number.
February 24, 200817 yr As his mum, she probably felt much the same when she watched him take to the stage as a 4 year old Peter Pan.
February 24, 200817 yr Author Except not as many people would be watching and the rest of his life wouldn't be affected. He is really lucky to have such a loving, supportive family.
February 25, 200817 yr Author They have to put the dance scene in as it's just so important to the book. Melanie's wedding ring and Scarlett coming out of mourning too early for those days are just too important to miss.
February 26, 200817 yr Author We could start a new thread for scenes we felt couldn't be missed ( maybe that should be shouldn't) How many of us have read the book now?
February 26, 200817 yr I'm doing alright I'm about halfway through GWTW, but I've also seen the film and read Rhett Butler's People too. Sorting out which is which in my mind might be confusing.
February 26, 200817 yr Author Reading Rhett's people first may cause you problems. Human nature seem sto make us want to have subsequent things agreeing with what we already 'know'. So your idea of things would probably be different to mine. I haven't received 'Rhett's people' yet.
February 26, 200817 yr Well I saw the film first and then the background features - the making of the film is an epic in itself, then came RBP and now GWTW, next comes Darius on TV or on stage at the new London.
February 26, 200817 yr This belongs in this thread http://www.whatsonstage.com/index.php?pg=2...ivals+%26+Party
February 26, 200817 yr Author She does look as if she'd be a good Scarlett. Then again, they probably wouldn't have cast her if she didn't.
February 26, 200817 yr They didn't have to guess. Jill was their Scarlett in the workshop so they had plenty of opportunity to appraise her.
February 26, 200817 yr Author She was. I don't think she would have been if they didn't think she was right.
February 26, 200817 yr Jill presented an award at the Whatsonstage Theatregoers Choice Awards. Rachel's just posted on .net that Darius is going one better - he's presenting an award at The Oliviers this year. How fantastic is that?
February 26, 200817 yr I was too excited to take it in. I think it said 9th March. I'll edit if I'm wrong.
February 27, 200817 yr Darius just being there and a chance of a photo or glimpse in a video would have been great, but to be presenting an award at the Oliviers is unbelievable. It's recognition that he has already achieved something in the world of theatre. The pop world should hang its head in shame, it never heaped anything but scorn on Darius.
