05. The Summer Anthem That Never Was

It was just amazing :( I thought it had everything going for it, was such a good summer tune also my mums loves it  was rather close to being my #04

"After You" I think that performance was the day I first started to become a Beverley Knight fan. I always watch Paul O'Grady and I thought that was a really good performance, she was on his show talking about "Music City Soul" and I thought it sounded good. For some reason I didn't buy anything from her until quite recently.

It really is an amazing performance  I love how Paul always bigs her up and I remember him saying that he used to put Affirmation on loud in the car driving about

After You was brilliant wasnt it. The posistion though was just horrible, for a while i thought it would break the top 40.
Never heard - The Summer Anthem That Never Was, what album is it from?

 silly misleading title Simon. :P

Yeah, it's just 'After You', referring to the top 140 flop it had. :(

Tbh I was actually expecting it to bring her back into the top 20 never mind 140.

I thought it would at least make the top 40, but after "No Man's Land" missing the top 40 this probably wasn't going to do much better even though it is more accessible in my opinion.

I agree, so annoying how No Man's Land was like 3 places from 40

Yeah, I don't think it was instant enough. On first listen it seems quite boring, but after a few listens (and live performances ) it's excellent.

I like the Nashville version of "Time Is On My Side" too, it used to be one of my least favourite on MCS but I like both versions a lot now.

Do you think it would have been the Nashville versions on the album but they scrapped them for not being commercial enough?

Not sure  I think they would have probabaly just done them for the singles

Hm I thought they might have just been edited out of the album because it was recorded in Nashville.

haha ! I'm so simple! I'm not fussed on After You at all tbh one of the worst on music city soul imo

When you say that I think "whaaaat?! It's so good" but then there are at least 6 tracks on the album I prefer. I think it's neither in the best or worst of the album. I don't dislike any tracks on the album but I prefer "After You" to "Back To You", "Uptight", "Saviour" and "Rock Steady" and maybe some more.
