I'd generally call myself more of a Conservative supporter than Labour, but I'm not sure I agree with this :| I thought Livingstone was, generally, doing a pretty good job.

Boris is box office though, the likes of him get people out to vote, the number of people that turned out to vote in the mayor election was a MASSIVE increase on 2004 so it shows that the likes of Johnson get young people interested in politics as a result of his comedy shows he has been on and so on

I think the fact that Johnson got people to vote who would not normally vote is a good thing for politics

I sincerly doubt it was young people who voted for him considering it's young people most of all who think he's an absolute d!*kh**d

I hope to be living in London within a couple of years, poor me and poor London :(

in a year London will become a giant circus, that is my prediction. Boris likes circus'.

Is it...? I'm sorry, but you are so wrong with that statement it's unreal, Boris winning the Mayoral election is totally symptomatic of the sheer dumbing down and reduction of Politics to the level of fukkin' Showbiz in this country... Was is a "good thing" for America (and the world as a whole) that Reagan, the fukkin' B-Movie actor out-acted by a fukkin' monkey, was the President for 8 sodding years...? Like buggery... We now have no right whatsoever to criticise the Americans now for voting in Reagan or Arnie... We are sodding Americans now.... <_< I'm ashamed to be a Londoner....

What's Boris Johnson's biggest achievement..? Getting the p!ss ripped out of him on "Have I Got News For You" and being "entertaining".... Erm, that's it.... This clown now has more power than the Leader of the Conservative Party at his disposal... Oh, well, that's scuppered your lot's chances of winning a General Elaction in '09 then....

Come on give Boris a chance. Both me and the wife voted for him and everyone we know, young and old. Change was needed so let's see how he does. Maybe his silliness was all a front.
people were horrified when Schwarzenegger become Governor of California  That hasn't really gone awfully wrong, so let's just give him a chance first. People are judging for his mishaps and Have I Got News For You slowness performances

Fukk off!!! He's had chances and he's blown it every time - Boris' Gaffes are the stuff of legend... The man is a fool, a borderline fukkin' racist as well (yes, he will really serve the most multicultural city in Europe well wont he..?).... You're just voting for him because he's the "funny bloke off Have I Got News For You"...... If you'd've wanted a real change as you claim, why not vote for Paddick or an Independant candidate.....?

Nah, sorry, you just swallowed the Standard's Pro-Boris Propaganda hook, line and sinker....

Love it....

And Chris... In the event that things DO go right, it will be in spite of Boris, not because of him... In short, it'll be his team of infinitely smarter, less prone to being an utter arse, people in the background doing most of the work.... He'll just be a figurehead... Something you could NEVER accuse Ken of merely being.. Love him or hate him, he was passionate, led from the front, was totally committed to doing the best he could for the city... He did more good than bad.....

In answer to GF I've never ever even seen HAGNFY so didn't vote for him because of that. Red Liar Ken had to go.

well said.... agreed :)

Red Liar Ken had to go.

And, so you voted for Boris "nice, but Dim" Johnson instead....? Beyond stupid mate, especially given that there were at least two candidates vastly more capable than Boris... Ken may have been a liar, but I still think he achieved a lot more for Londoners than this idiot ever will...

My thoughts exactly. As usual 'floating voter' refers to someone blinkered into believing there are only two parties and float between them based on media reports.

Yes, the Liberal party lost a lot of clout when Charles Kennedy was forced out, but to continually switch between polar opposites is ridiculous. Yes, I know there's little between them in practice at the moment, but in principal they are. That said, Ken is about as left wing as Labour gets while Boris is as right as the Tories get...so why on earth the big swing to Boris?

Pretty much sums it up tbh.... I really, really dunno why more people didn't vote for Paddick... If "Law and Order" is the chief concern, well, Paddick's a BLOODY EX-COPPER!!!!!   I mean, really, what the fukk does Boris actually know about Policing issues in London....?

Personally though, I dont believe that the Mayoral post should be about Party Politics anyway (how can a Mayor serve the people of London if they are tied in with a Party's national agenda...?), it should ideally go to a totally independant candidate with no ties to any of the Main Parties....

There was an Independant candidate, whom I voted for...
